Gear VR hands-on: refined and more versatile than ever

04 August, 2016
It is great to see that Samsung is still working hard on VR, as being a pioneer is becoming increasingly daunting and challenging in today's tech realm. And the Gear VR is just that - when it was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 4 at IFA 2014 in Berlin, it was more or less charting new ground.

Anonymous, 05 Aug 2016htc vive still the king.Gear VR costs 99 dollars and it uses your phone, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift cost A LOT MORE and they need a powerful and expensive PC to work.

AnonD-190634, 05 Aug 20164k? Even gaming PCs have enough trouble playing 4k at 60fps... moreVR isn't just for games, my use of it would be principally videos, I said that 4K display would be better because even in 2K you can see the pixels so a higher PPI would be good, I don't need to remind you that Xperia Z5 Premium have a 4K display with 800+!

AnonD-237381, 04 Aug 2016It'll be even better when Samsung phones start coming with ... more4k? Even gaming PCs have enough trouble playing 4k at 60fps :) vr needs 90fps to look good! But as gear vr is meant to be only a refrence and not serious(i assume it has 60hz panel) it's ok. But i mean unless yoi want the stupid UI to lag even more or drain thr battery in a second or only see videos and stuff in 4k it's ok! But I don't think you can play many computer generated stuff

What are you guys talking about? No headphones?! Of course you can connect any headphones to your phone. And scaling down resolution from 4K to 720p? Why would anyone do that?! It looks pixelated as hell on QHD already. What the hell at least try it out before posting your millions of opinions

Great review. In depth, as always.
When the S8 arrives with its 4K display, combine with Samsung's current tech that enables us to tone down the screen res down to mere 720p in order to save juice, mobile VR with the S8 would be the ultimate killer feature without competition.

:( previous article about note7+vr mentioned a "maybe" for the note4 compatibility, and now it's said to not support it :(
