The shape of this phone reminds me of ME45 with that curve instead of box u find on M75 or ME75. Too bad the screen is smaller than most phone nowadays.

Watch out everyone! BenQ Siemens is back with a vengeance! This is a pretty little phone which serves its purpose with a few extras thrown into the mix. Clean design and wonderful colour combination, makes this one very handy handset.

As to the difference from M75 - it supports EDGE!
About the new company Nokia-Siemens, that was announced on June the 19th: It has nothing to do with the production of mobile phones. It is about merging the Network Divisions of these companies so that they can compete with the strongest on the market (Cisco...). All in all this concerns the equipment for the mobile network operators, not the phones!

i have a M75, and i am quite sattisfied with it... it's an unique phone.. and i think i am the only owner in the town..
anyway.. let's not talk about m75..
still i can't help making a comparison between the two phones..
in fact.. other than a flash light.. M81 has nothing more than m75
i didn't like the benq siemens alliance from the start.. siemens made better phones than benq. i understood from a news report that siemens is going to fuse with nokia..
is that true?.. it will be great.. think what marvelous phones would appear.
in the end.. benq and siemens are a bad idea.. i haven't seen any of their phones in stores... i think they'll go bankrupt if they don't do anything soon

I have read some obviously non-objective comments here. The main remarks are about the screen resolution. So let's se the new just announced Nokia 6151: The phone would use the S40 user interface and would have a 262K color TFT display with a resolution of 128x160 pixels on an area of 28.91 x 35.48mm. The handset is expected to hit the shelves in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia in the third quarter of 2006 at a retail price of approximately 240 euro before taxes.

Well then 240 euro + tax for a phone with a screen 128x160 pixels?!? I don't think that M81 will cost that much, because it is obviously intended to be mass selling product on the market. Personnaly I don't miss any "inovations" or "advanced technologies", on the contrary M81 has it all what is really needed...

Weather & shock protection are nice, but it otherwise doesn't seem to be much of an improvement over the S66 on my desk.
RE: Cameras - Manufacturers would be well advised build some camera phones with a decent megapixel count and just make their other phones without cameras at all. Camera phone buyers will get their gadget and non-camera users will get a cheaper, simpler phone.

I have a preference for for rugged outdoor-phones, so I guess I should like this one. Better batterylife then the surprisingly mediocre battery in Nokia 5500 sport, but thats about it. I like the large joypad, but the buttons seems somewhat picky/small. Someone here complained about not-so-Siemens design, but I dont agree - and thats not necessarily a good thing. Long gone are the days of the classic ME45-design, sadly.

Yes, probably M81 isnt a revolutionary phone, but M81s features are behind W710 and nokia 5500. Screen resolution is one feature, only 132*176 vs 176*220 of SE and 208*208 of nokia, SE has 120*160 screen in low end models. This device it supossed to compete with these two models but no match anyone. No motion sensor and nothing. Its only a low-end phone with rubber case, no more!! only 1,3MPix vs 2.0 in W710 and 5500!!!
For me is a low-end model, no more!

The black version of this phone looks really very nice, but tastes are not to be discussed. It seems that there are lot of people who are expecting that each new phone is revolutionary on the market! Are you trying to say that Samsung for example, who produced OVER 150 models just in last year, all these models were revolutionary? Take any other company (including Nokia) - how often, and how many revolutionary phones are realesed over the year. Nokia is still producing qute expensive phones with the screens of 128x160 pixels (Some new SonyEricsson also) So what's the big deal?!? And what else in the world should one PHONE have?!? All the previous comments are about inventing something new & stuff.... What does it mean "new" (perhaps some E.T. like communication?), just.wait till you see the price of M81 and if it's going to be with the old Siemens interface it will shurely be a hit on the market...

probably all of you haven't seen the black version of BS M81, it's kinda mixing of:
                                    - ME45 for the material body & shape
                                    - S65 for the keypad design
                                    - C61 for the camera
it's kinda coll stuf. but, I admit that BS should realize their backward in display resolution, FW stability & battery-life. other than that, it's a great option for someone who appreciate their own mobile not to re-sale and change, re-sale & change, etc (you know what I mean, don't you?). still as siemens lover though. =>

the M65 is the last M that i like. all other M's that followed are ugly. what happened to benq-siemens? they should not deviate from the designs and technology that siemens started and became known for.
