Poor sales now descended on them even after the release of much anticipated blackberry Os 10, which now made them to switch to Android that they have initially condemned, in terms of security that blackberry always rave about, there are so many apps on android store that can give u that security and even more, in terms of updates, Xiaomi and Samsung always release security updates for their phones, people have wisened up to the blackberry hype and their overpriced phones, blackberry should count themselves lucky to still be in existence after all their awful business decisions, they could have easily ended up like defunct Nokia, I think people like you who are still invading social media platforms, hyping blackberry devices as being the best thing ever can only be a staff of blackberry or you are on their payroll because I can see any viable arguments to still justify BlackBerry as a top phone manufacture unless you are fool. They don't even put latest or high end socs in their phones, BlackBerry is in for a more rougher ride if they don't change their ways.

andrewuna, 28 Aug 2016Why would anyone wanna buy this blackberry DT piece of crap... moreBecause it provides more value than the competition for the given price-tag, if you value security.

It costs way more to have a security team patch vulnerabilities on a continuous basis than just pumping out specs and forgetting you.

andrewuna, 28 Aug 2016Why would anyone wanna buy this blackberry DT piece of crap... moreBecause quality software, a suite of productivity apps and customizable shortcuts make a phone perform tasks faster than unnecessary specs.

If you are buying this phone, chances are security is at the top of your list. If so, DO NOT buy it from the carriers. They take around 2 or more weeks to release critical security patches and BlackBarry doesn't really do much push them (because they can't - carriers respond well to manufacturers who have more selling power).

I made the mistake of trusting the lie one carrier put out when I asked (they said they will release patches and update right away). If you are buying a BB Android and buying for security, buy direct.

You buy this phone because you want Nexus-like security updates with an SD card slot and 3 years of updates. *Only* BlackBerry and Google remain committed to providing these monthly patchlevels any more. Not Motorola. Not Xiaomi. Certainly not Samsung, for anything other than their flagship. For everybody else it's too hard because they have too many devices with too many designs.

BlackBerry is effectively supporting two phones now - Priv and DTEK50. They have been on par with the Nexus devices at backporting security patches for a year now. If you want timely security, there are really three options: Apple, Nexus, and BlackBerry. Of those three, only one will give you an SD card.

Of course, don't believe what I'm saying here. Go out and do your own research and you'll see what I'm saying is correct.

The Alcaltel Pop only recieved a preview, this phone may receive a review

My story is that I migrated to BlackBerry in Mid 2014 (BNIB) at a giveaway price
I understand the reason why BlackBerry owners want BlackBerry 10 OS not a Blackberry manufactured android
I admit that I have not played around with the latter

The other problem is gsmarena describe the Pop as a midrange phone
Even if I was inclined to stick with BlackBerry this phone offers little over the 2013 Z10.
            http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=8229&idPhone3=7937&idPhone1=5251
BlackBerry need to offer flagship phones as you can see the dteck50 is a tweaked Alcaltel
BlackBerry should take note of Apple and the iPhone SE consumer demand and release a BlackBerry 10 version of the PRIV!!
So FYI no security updates on BB10 as like Windows 10 virus free malwarefree

Anonymous, 27 Aug 2016Rogers is not selling it as of this typing, Bell and Telus are. Rogers have it. That said they are more focused on getting rid of Samsung phones since they are harder to get rid of.

I'd rather buy it unlocked at that price. You're looking at an extra 20$ for quicker updates.

People should pause for a second and actually use their heads before commenting about "alternatives" or "better value".

Do understand this phone is aimed at professionals/enterprises which do value security highly. How many of your "alternatives" have 0day updates like BB does? Just recently BB was the first 3rd-party to plug the QuadRooter vulnerabilities. Almost a month after, how many of your "alternatives" actually got that fixed? -- Not many is the most kind way to put it.

THAT is the difference between buying a competitor to an Alcatel Idol 4 or buying a DTEK50. YES, it's the same hardware, but the support (which is the most expensive and important thing to professionals/enterprises) couldn't be further apart!

From the negative comments, have you actually used/seen/held the phone? I purchased it in the UK and for a mid-range phone, i'm impressed. Great screen, solid (slim) build, stunning speakers (4 of them at 3.6 watts!) and the BB hub is simply the best notification system out there, backed with Android, it's a great performer. It may be an Alcatel produced phone but the BB overlay makes it stand out

Why would anyone wanna buy this blackberry DT piece of crap when there are so many cheaper options with better specs too.

Not in regards to this phone particularly but 617 chip is pretty good. Much better that S4 that use to rock.

For the specs and hardware and the security and Blackberry HUB, this is a good deal.
The cameras will appeal to young people.
