27 September 2016
A Motorola spokesperson unofficially confirms plans to update current-gen Moto devices.

I was looking to get away from Samsung, and their incredibly fragmented update scheme, and Moto was known for their fast updates. Then I remembered that Lenovo now owns Moto, so don't expect more than one software update for your flagship smartphone, and midrangers? They just won't get an update. I wanted to give Lenovarola a chance, but you shouldn't expect any good things from a Chinese company, unless you like being disappointed.

Moto is no more a Google company. Google want us to use there latest OS and services. So, system updates will be there frequently.
    .
Now it's owned by Lenovo and like any other company, they want us to buy new phones.
If they continue deliver latest updates even for 2 or 3 year old devices, who will buy new phones??
    .
Also, what including apple is doing is providing updates that won't work fluently.. Causing us to think our phone is not capable of running new OS and need to buy new phone..

Updating older models to newer android is not a profitable business model. If you were a phone maker, would you want people to buy your new models so you can have more money in your bank account? OR would you prefer to update all your older models you sold last year and have no money? It's as simple as that. Most phones from the past 4 years will run android 7 no problem if the makers really wanted them to.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lenovo left the 2015 moto line with no N. They are trying their hardest to undermine the 2015 sets, probably because it uses too much plastic, are too thick and can take a beating before breaking, and that goes against their strategy of copying Samsung's design. Next on Lenovo's pipeline: exploding batteries. If Samsungs doing it, they gotta do it too.

Moro G3? Motorola got tens of millions customers with the Moto G line. The expectations were and ARE. 2 big updates for a Moto G phone. IF Lenovo leaves Moto G3 out now, they risk losing millions on tens of millions customers in the future, which Motorola have been working hard to get. Don't ruin the Moto Gs reputation now Lenovo OK!

Seems to me it is a list for 2016 devices only, not YET include 2015 devices. Moto may announce it later.

This is ridiculous! We pay for all those devices, and pay much and after that we have to pray and beg for system updates. Mobile market is the IT Dark Ages because of completely broken Android software model! Manufacturers are not interested in changing this state because they grab money from the market thanks to it!

Nice. I want to sell my Nexus 5x and buy a moto z play, the battery is a beast in that phone. Android 7.0 is incredible, I like it.
