Report says Samsung Galaxy Note7 fiasco won't affect Gear S3's launch

Following Samsung's announcement that the Galaxy Note7 has been permanently discontinued, there were reports from Korean media that the Note7 debacle will have a negative impact on the company's future projects, many of which will get delayed.

Apple will rename common things to sound cooler (like "swimproof") but it all means the same. I won't deny that's smart marketing. In reality both watches are great, although I'm more excited for the S3 because of 3 letters... "MST". If you don't know what that is, google it because it's largely unknown by anyone outside of tech enthusiasts and avid Samsung users. It's truly one tech that trounces the competition, including Apple Pay, in every way. Now it'll be in a watch. Sweeeeeeet!

    I surf with my Gear S2 all the time. And the word swimproof comes from Apple, because Apple considers itself is too good to use a common word like waterproof or water resistant. What you're looking for is the IP (Ingress Protection.) And the inclusion or lack of and IP rating wouldn't make a watch "obsolete".
    IMO the Gear S3 is far superior than the Apple watch for two main reasons; 1. More and better hardware and options, such as having it's own SIM card and phone number. 2. Because it communicates with far more that just Samsung phones.
    That being said, I am impressed with the 50m water resistance rating of the Apple watch and I wish the Gear S3 had it.

      Agreed...looks like a winner...but nobody wants a sports watch that has to be removed before swimming...and nobody wants a luxury watch that is afraid of the water...see where I'm going here? Sam apparently doesn't.

        Ive been waiting for this for a while but the timing probably couldn't be better what with the holidays drawing nearer.

That fact that this ties into Samsung Pay with NFC and MST capabilities is enough to sell me by itself. The rest is just icing.

            Note 7 is an accident.... but Samsung has so far excelled in innovation and commitment.
            It is their effort that keeps the heart alive. I am waiting for gear 3 and also Note 8.
            Sammy, please release the NOTE 8 with GALAXY 8.... There are many people waiting for NOTE....

              Truth is that people don't care about watches. They only do as jewelery pieces. So adding functionality to them is irrelevant for 90% of the people.

              It's a product that very few want. Like tablets. I mean I love my tablet because I have to read papers all the time. But the average person on the streets? ... not even close.

              Those are niche products.

                  Because being non-"swimproof" is what has kept smart watches from becoming mainstream.

                  Actually, the Gear 3 has pretty good specs. I am just not too sure about the design.

                    if they fail to release it next month by the end of the year it will be already obsolete when swimproof smartwatches start to come out. (apple watch doesnt count if you dont have an iphone).

                          Samsung has learned a lesson from Apple, that the phones should go on sales asap after announcement, otherwise potential customers burn out from waiting and starting to search alternatives. With Gear S3 is exact situation, almost 2 months from the announcement. To long Samsung, to long...
