Motorola wants you to dream up the next MotoMods

03 November 2016
Motorola is still pushing MotoMods, which is both the name of some mobile accessories that are already out for the Moto Z line of smartphones, but also what the company is calling its initiative for bringing more of these to the market. Motorola has already launched the MotoMods Development Kit (MDK) so that eager hardware companies can design their own modular accessories that snap onto the Moto Z's back. Now though it's taking things one step further.

What about a MotoMod that is an e-ink panel a la Yota Phone or a Mod that can overcharge the graphics department to play Portal 2 or anything the Nvidia Shield can play, or even some battery pack with side controls like the Nintendo Switch.

Well, first I wanna see a successor to moto X Style/Pure with OLED display, back/side fingerprint, snap 821, 4gb ram...
Then we will think about terrible motomods...

It wont last forever, but its great way to see what all can phone do. Its just inventing new mod without phone and its way cheaper. I would like to see for ex. mod with cameras like in AVP, solar scroll or survival kits. Its limitless.

Basically, people would like to change phone for better one's.. Which has better ram etc.. Why not create a mod which can work like an external ram/hard disk. At the sametime it should be cost effective rather than selling it at over price. However, projector and camera mod options is an excellent idea, but investing money which is cost of a mobile on single mod I don't think its worth it.

How about a MotoMod with a printer

I doesn't feel like the moto as it was. The feel and touch is very different, the texture, the polished detail. it wans't like it. It is a different phone now.

How about an add on that enables regular updates and support?

Oh wait that isn't going to happen.

So far they put much more effort than LG ever did with their mods. We'll see how this goes. A great variety of useful mods could turn more people in using Motorola products. Of course, the price really counts as it isn't appealing to buy an expensive smartphone and later keep spending loads of money in order to bring additional functionality to the device.
