Apple AirPods disassembled by iFixit, given the lowest score possible

20 December 2016
X-ray images show the chips were poorly soldered, which hints that Apple was in a rush.

Another thing, the iFixit team is not the authority on how to take things apart properly. About 10 years ago when I repair Nintendo DS Lite systems, it took me 3-4 cycles (taking the whole thing apart and putting it back together) to fully understand and learn the best way to remove certain items without breaking anything. Do you think the iFixit team will waste 3-4 AirPods to learn how to take them apart properly? They sell simple tools. Not professional tools.

An example for having professional tools is replacing cracked touchscreens that are fused to the LCD. When they first came out, iFixit said it was nearly impossible to separate the touchscreen glass and LCD, and that they will need to be replaced together. But with the right equipment and skills, a technician can replace your cracked touchscreen in about 30 minutes. Plenty of YouTube videos if you're curious.

If the need ever arises, people will figure out a way to take them apart without breaking them to replace the battery. It will likely take a few tries and some trail and error but it will happen.

This is click bait. Show me ANY earbud that is "fixable" by the average user? Even if you can take one apart without breaking anything, there is a good chance you won't find the right replaceable parts.

Some things just aren't meant for "repair" by the average user or anyone. If they designed it to be repairable, it would probably not look very nice and be much more bulky.

          Are you serious?
They just said that only Apple can repair these and that you can not replace stuff yourself. This is important for the lifetime of a product. What happens if Apple no longer supports their headphones? You can not repair it. The battery will be dead after some time and their product useless. Forgotten.

The AirPods received universally positive reviews, but this article tried to put a bad light on it nevertheless, questioning repairability (ridiculous!) and even durability...
