Bad updates and no timely updates caused their demise too

Anonymous, 25 Dec 2016Seems that no one make money with Android except Samsung Lol.It's true when it comes hardware manufacturers. But software service providers and patent owners make lot of money. Even though Windows phone isn't that much popular Microsoft has a very good income from Android. They don't need another OS.

supm, 25 Dec 2016Same here I never liked custom ROMs and never will like you... moreThat's exactly what cyanogenmod was about. To solve the issues caused by bad custom roms. It acted like a real distro. Stable releases had no bugs, in fact acted like more upgraded OEM releases.

The death of Cyanogenmod is one of the worst blows to phone longevity. After this we'd be forced to upgrade phones every two years. It's disgusting how bad this is...

Good, it remains a true open source project still, semi-commercial products like these are never great anyway. Like ubuntu, never was a linux distro more ridiculous. These things are inherently unsuitable for the public, most rooters want to play around, not use it as daily driver long term. Im happy its back where it belong with real programmers.

Cyanogenmod made my Asus Z00L faster, made it bloatware free. I am thankful to the developers at Cyanogenmod for all the hard work.

Parting says with OnePlus was probably the biggest strategic mistake.

Remember the CEO said of OnePlus, without Cyanogen brand name, OnePlus would not even sell one unit....

Seems we know who is having the last laugh

Starting from Android nougat I don't see any massive reason why a person would want to root their phones most are old phones which won't get any more updates, given stock Android I don't see any big benefit really I see Hick ups and bad battery optimization plus most Android skins are good now ( moto - Sony - grace touch wiz) it's all down to individuals and thats what's it always been like no reason for firms and CEOs like that , after all Google will win in the end that's a fact

Cyanogenmod probably really did some good jobs in a few way but they did it poorly on some important stuff. Simple example is on camera side.
You know how good samsung did with s7 camera right? Why would you want to switch to custom build rom and dealing with bugs like bad camera image processing and all that stuff?
I (personally) won't switch to custom rom if the rom brought out of box with the device is good enough.
My current device is Redmi Note 3 Pro, great hardware poor software. Switching to custom build rom is reasonable choice.
S7 on the other hand, great hardware & great software, switch to custom build rom? dealing with all the bugs and problem? Probably not.
