Then that is you choosing to buy those extra things for more cost.
That still doesn't justify their pricing.
And still most people can't or don't think they need to upgrade that much that often

I am looking at a VR headset, and yes I am looking to replace my 3yr old pc to build one I am confident will run new vr content for the next 3 years. As for phones, I am considering which new unit to buy based on processor, speed of updates, modem speed and daydream capability. SO yes, many of us who like to play with the cutting edge tech will be considering new devices and larger costs due to pursuing our hobby,

I sure there are a few other things in there that we are not accounting for and they need something to compensate it being so new and niche....

But they are flat out of their minds to think they should be able to charge $1700 for that.
That's going to make people not buy them. How the heck are you going to make money when you only get half or a fourth or less of the sales you might have?????????????

Thats real innovation #1 of the 2017 year. No more head down generation. Thats whole new device. Hopping other biggest manufacturers also will represent self smart glasses, notice whole new technology innovation niche, and it have more competition and get lower Smart Glasses cost. But when we talking about whole new main device, cost is not much, when we compare with flagship phones. Only now problem is new content shortage in this new main device. But need remember start QHD screens in phone. Maybe new content is not big problem in this Smart Glasses. Well now its premium new device, will appears quickly new content. Its not be problem create when device is very practical in life.

Ha! And I thought the Playstation vr headset was overpriced!! 😂😂😂😂

                  "VR-Like experience"
                  Looks at price: +$1000. Wtf.

Anonymous, 04 Jan 2017Next step: screens integrated in contact lenses...Everyone I know that wears contact lenses hates dealing with them. There's also maintaining extreme hygiene because it can get dangerous if you don't. People have lost their sight from not changing lenses or cleaning daily.

AnonD-525497, 04 Jan 2017Oculus Rift is just $599, and the computer to go with it on... moreNo it is not. You don't buy a computer just for VR. You can also play regular games (on TV or wherever) , also do your taxes, watch a movie, edit a video.

So yeah $1000 *just* for VR is a lot.
Also as the user above said, glasses are too close to the eyes, that's not good for VR.

Too close to the eyes, not good for VR. Probably good for AR, but AR is a gimmick and nobody is ever going to use it, so this product will fail.

a 1000 dollars for HD only? its only about screen...so to expect me to waist that much on HD or FHD s craziness. Lets wait another year or 2

Julliard, 04 Jan 2017I get your point. But still, even Oculus Rift is just $599,... moreOculus Rift is just $599, and the computer to go with it only costs $800 (entry point) so by this argument the $1000 price tag of a compact all in one device is quite reasonable.

                              research time, wages, prototype units
wages for hundreds or more employees

B, 04 Jan 2017They must have added one 0 more than intended when they mad... moreThe difference is these are not intended to be VR, but AR. More like Google Glass than a Rift or Vive.

Still, that price point looks more like a proof of concept than a finished product. Still waiting for a clip-on for my regular glasses so I'm not walking around all day with either Google Glass or giant sunglasses.

They must have added one 0 more than intended when they made the priceces for these handsets?
The SOC is probably around $80 and the display $50 so that would be around $170 for the retail price...
When these headsets arrive, you will almost certainly be able to experience much better VR by using a SD835 Device and Daydream with 4 times that resolution and 3 times the FOV starting at $400.
