I wonder what could its application be. I doubt it would be the unlock feature.

Fujitsu was first, with Nokia/Microsoft following shortly in 2015. Note 7 was way late. Apple fans even want to write down their Touch ID as the first phone fingerprint scanner on the world but unfortunately the first one was made by Toshiba.
