This is because anodized aluminium is a cheap process that Nokia did 10-15 years ago and proved not very good when it comes to phones. Now a lot of manufacturers are using this to make their phones _look_ premium instead of actually being premium.
Polycarbonate is smarter and better than recycled beercans in every way.

And things like this are why I don't buy Apple... their products appear to be of amazing quality (much better than direct rivals), but when things go wrong (which can happen to the very best) Apple always makes excuses and avoids all responsibility.

Better to use plastic. It doesn't chip, scratch, dent, crack or shatter with normal use. Why use metal or glass on the back?

This happened with my sony ericsson c902 a few years ago. Metal too smooth and shiny for the paint.

Just be more careful. I had this on my S7 Edge, it's simply a matter of being careful. I currently have an iPhone 7 Plus in the matte black color and I've had no issues, had it since november.
