Because my normal vision is telling me that a 2K display is just as sharp as 1080p display, and no, using it for months will not affect my interpretation of 2K benefitting over 1080p in terms of resolution, because they're basically senseless on a sub-6" screen devices. Yes, my sister uses a G4 and I have seen a Xperia X with 1080p display. Comparing them side by side is a way of determining a difference, so how is it irrelevant? Well what does matter more? Through the number of pixels or the way you see it? People prefer 2K because it is overly hyped by the majority, fooling people that it is better even when it's not. I already have used my sister's G4 for a lot of times already, but it doesn't make me dislike a 1080p nor a 720p display. You can believe what you want, but it will never change the fact that a 2K display is just as sharp as 1080p display on a sub-6" screen, regardless of how long you see it or use it.

    Another funny thing is people want fullhd display in their 20" pc monitor & 2k display in their 5.5" phone where viewing distance is almost same.

      That's why companies should aggressively push for Netfix + 4k phones right now, it's the only read use for VR. Anything else is either too expensive, or too bulky, or plain bad (movement nausea).

      All Netflix watching does not eat battery because it's hardware accelerated (almost no cpu is used), and brightness is low because there is no need for bright environments.

      Lastly it's far less heavy than PC VR when done right (fabric based viewer + phones can ideally weigh as little as 300 grams).

      So yes, VR is the present if done right (fabric non bulky viewer + Netflix + 4k).

        I said, if you use a 2k display phone REGULARLY FOR MONTHS (ECHO: FOR MONTHS), YOU WILL NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE. Did you use your sister's phone for months? Did your friends and relative use a 2k phone for MONTHS and switch back to 1080p or 720p? NO. You just compare it side by side, which is irrelevent.

        Now you know why people prefer 2k. Once you try 2k, there's no reason to downgrade to a 1080p or 720p

If hardware & software maker make the phone screen with this capability then it is possible to use the phone with our desire. Such as i like HTC 10 or galaxy s7. But their 1440p screen make game slow. Even there on screen performance in gsmarena is also low. Main problem is if mobile content is 1080p they will render it in 1440p which is of no use. Even my phone has no video with more than 1080p. So why to loss extra battery to run a 1080p video in 1440p resolution. Many people think running a 1080p video in a 1440p display increases video quality. Lol.

The technology is a combination of the strengths of AMOLEDs and LCDs without their issues, and a huge bonus is that you can decide the number of pixels on your screen, but you're definitely not going to make use of it since it uses microLEDs which are so tiny that, like its name, can only be seen through microscope. It's so tiny that even a hundred of them would look like a thousand on conventional panels. In short, at 100 ppi, the panel would be pure 4K since on VR, the pixels are 100% invisible, and definitely the phone will benefit so much since the CPU, GPU, and battery only have to power a total of 100 ppi so greater performance and better battery life will be brought

Now I have seen several 1080p screen devices, and no matter how much I try it, I simply cannot see a difference compared to 2K screens. Neither my friends nor my relatives can see anything either, and we're definitely free from eyesight issues. I guess you should look back again because maybe you're just hallucinating when viewing a 1080p display. Besides, not everyone is going to see 2 different resolutions in real life right?

Phones can't even provide a 30-day battery life, yet they are now making this funky stuff to give smartphones another issue. VR is just the product of 4D, but how many people are going to find it beneficial in reality? Are people supposed to wear VR everytime and everywhere? Are we supposed to see our world through the screen of our phones? Not that I'm not going to use it, but if they can at least provide enough solution to the current problems of our phones, then I'd say it's time to evolute our current technology, but certainly not now. To short it off, VR is just an excuse because not everyone will benefit to it

Even if you downscale a QHD into HD, the pixels are still there. It's still 1440p but it is camouflage as a 720p.

VR watching is huge, it basically kills the cause to own a giant tv for the majority of uses, all the while you can take it with you. VR can (and will) transform the world if done right.

                        VR is not an excuse, like smartphones weren't 20 years ago, they were merely done wrong (small screens too many buttons). 4k + Netflix VR is the first step to do VR right for once. VR is the future, not an excuse...

                          5.1" is the perfect size for a smartphone screen. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is perfectly-sized smartphone. Not too big like a phablet, not too small like an iPhone. I will settle with the S7 until it dies.

Guess what, Sony is the founder of the technology along with JDI, and Xperia flagships are going to be the first to have that incredible technology

Xperia X is just as sharp as the two. Basically, 2K is a 1080p + GPU cook + CPU thermal boost + battery hog. For VR, neither 2K nor 1080p will ever satisfy the user, and that's where 4K comes on to play, and we all know who made the first 4K display smartphone right?

                                  We need a 1080p display that can run native 4K. In short terms, CLEDIS FTW!
                                  In shorter term, Sony FTW!

                                    Simply said id like to see text as sharp as possible.. and nothing does that better than 2k or 4k not fhd. I dont know about the rest of mobile using creatures tho..

                                      As many don't see difference between great colors captured by new Sony sensor and other "brighter" cameras, between full HD and qhd, oneplus 4K video and sony's 4K video, 4K is no difference. Actually that number is impressive given there is no real 4K device(z5p is not full time and also looks like upscale). I don't see people not going crazy for phone like note8 if it would come with 4K screen, not to mention sony's 4K hdr new screen would it come in premium phone. To have same looking phone with same hw and no overkill features is boring. Even if you mostly use sd/HD resolution, there are times when limitless hw is usefull or at least it feels so. Again, we are supposed to enjoy with our sight, why then are our eyes so Complex?

Lowering screen resolution wil... moreLowering resolution enables apps to use smaller assets when designing their UI. That works wonders with RAM tretention, which in turn is the number 1 reason for the snappy feel.

                                        Downscale 4k to 1080p in a system wide move you get better gpu performance and more snappiness due to not having to reload as many apps. Also it's the only useful resolution for VR watching.

                                        Downscaled 4k is the future, basically the only good solution right now, nobody is using it because of polls like above. Steve Jobs said "that people don't know what they want or like, we present it to them".

                                        Steve Jobs accurately described how little connections often exists between the aesthetics of a person and his/her ability to form it into words, so he was never asking people, he was just building things that people would like anyway. The is the case with downscaled 4k, everybody likes it better , yet most don't know it, because most don't even think things deeply.
