After the 1-3GB reserved for actual RAM duty, you may have at best 5GB of total ramdisk space. You cannot put all of your apps/OS on that small of a ramdisk.

More importantly, UFS 2.0 based storage as used on many but not all phones is nearly as fast as any ramdisk, to the point where the chipset is more of a bottleneck than the storage.
I would bet my entire income the difference in those phones is in RAM channels, RAM timings, and in the flash storage controllers and bus speeds.

In the most likely case even with a 6GB RAM setup you are looking at just 2-3GB of Ramdisk space, which is laughable. There are single games that can't even fit in the entirety of that Ramdisk, so this "ramdisk" argument is totally bunk.

Check phonebuff tests and C4etech tests. The more Ram a phone has the faster it is by far. Iphones are an exception because they use 1/10th the ram amount for any background app.

See this 6GB phone absolutely destroying, its 4GB peers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otwED6s3rCQ

There is literally no better predictor of smooth performance than ram amount. Once your ram is turned into a ram disk it's smooth sailing , suddenly all your apps are recalled stricly from memory, no reloads ever and pretty much instant response.

RAM is the most important thing in every day phone performance.

seriously, having 2 cameras on a phone is pointless.

i could have forgiven sd821 on this "flagship" if quad DAC could have been made available everywhere not just South Korea. but now, you aint gettin my money Lg. why does Lg like making such gambles??????????? do they know how their audio sucks without these DACs???? lemme now wait for sammy's S8 with AKG tuned audio!!!

So, negligible screen and performance increases. Worse cameras on both the rear main and the front. Bit heavier and bulkier than G5, no market getting the complete feature set (want good DAC, and a radio? Or DAC and Charging? Nope!), disappointing rise in battery life for the extra bulk and it being sealed in. But it's water and dust proof, which is surely going to appeal to the mass market crowd that ignores LG phones.

Even worse, the V20 is now available with discounts, and has better hardware. Are they really relying on the fact that it is IP68 and has a glass build to sell it over the V20?

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2017It's slow for a flagship. Observe how slow it is in the ... moreI'm sorry, but the amount of RAM is irrelevant as it is basically never fully utilized, what is far more relevant is the timings of the RAM and how many channels are being used.

The 821 supports up to quad channel, and 4GB is easily implementable as 4x1GB channels. Which would theoretically actually be faster than a 6GB set up, as that is going to be 3x2GB channels. If I had to guess why some phones with 6GB beat the 4GB equivalent, it would be down to RAM timings, which is effectively the clock speed of the RAM modules. RAM is produced at different speeds like CPUs, although I don't know what timings are being used for each individual chipset.

W removable batteries all they did was to buy a new battery and *bam* a brand new phone. I mean you had disasters like people keeping their phones for more than 2-3 years... Imagine that!

Instead we now get unsparing phones that will burst into flames unless you trade up eventually (batteries that swell and stuff)

All these phones with non-removable batteries - will (literally) flame out.. They should understand that most people do not require waterproofing (other than occasional splash) and even phones with removable batteries can be made waterproof with the help of companies such as liquipel and others. In short: bring back the removable battery and all over-heating issues will be gone!

I think we are seeing a repositioning of the 'G' Bragg as we know it. Be interesting to see the price, but I suspect LG are trying to push this as a top tier mass market phone rather than a flagship and will hopefully price accordingly, leaving the 'V' series as the phone of choice for power users. It's as though they've realised they will never outsell the Galaxy S, so this could be a good play by LG, even with an older SOC. Good luck is what I say

Finally decent looking LG flagship phone. Except LG G4 with leather back, all others looked somehow cheap. When I saw LG G5 first time on photos, I could not believe how cheap and bad it looks, even today it's still somehow ugly from back to me. This G6 looks good, looks classy, I like it very much. Hardware is also great. I like both rear cameras are 13 Mp, just waiting to see first tests and how good night photos are. Looking throught specs, this phone have all I need, can't wait to see it in person, black version looks best to me.

The article says the V moniker is LG's flagship now, but V10 neither V20 were available worldwide, the G5 also was launched in LATAM with a downgraded hardware (SD652) for premium price, most of Samsung phones are available worldwide, mainly flagships, that's why they crush LG in sales, LG don't have the logistics that Samsung has.
