Non of the things you mentioned wouldn't satisfy that need (gear 360? Airpods? you've got to be kidding recommending that overpriced junk!!) except the Bluetooth headphones.
As of now ,mostly only the very expensive BT headphones can match up to the SQ of wired headphones that are 2/3 of their price , also their battery life could be a problem , not to mention the variously BT standards that determine the SQ... Too many variables with BT headphones whereas with wired headphones SQ depends on the DAC, headphones and the quality of the file mostly... So wired headphones was a sensible choice imo.... Not to mention their unparalleled compatibility with phones , DAPs, laptops , studio equipment etc...
People have different preferences and needs, it's the manufacturer's responsibility to cater for them if they need people to buy there product...

If he's an audiophile, he should've bought the LG V20.

There are a lot of much better things you can buy with $250 in the world for a better value of money (such as Samsung Gear 360, a high quality bluetooth earphone, Airpod, high quality case for phone and many more (even non-tech items)). $250 is just too much for a headphone, I will not spend anything more than $40 for a headphone. So, that's your problem.

Oneplus is the only company out there which values what its fanbase wants. I don't think they'll exclude headphone jack. If they does, my $250 headphone will be useless, so I speaking for myself, even though rocking a oneplus mobile now, will not go for the next one.
