OnePlus 5 will sport the Snapdragon 835 chipset, CEO confirms

24 May 2017
This is probably the most unsurprising news of the week, by quite a margin.

Another $400 bucks to get a slightly faster chip. Smartphones are similar to laptops these days. I know people who still use a MacBook released in 2008-2010 and still works like a charm. Why pay another $400 for a slightly faster chip that only needs to open social media apps and runs a 2D UI?

Only wanting to upgrade just for bragging rights or to get a newer, sealed battery. Or maybe for a better GPU if you are a gamer. If you have a 2015 or 2016 flagship, you should be fine for the next FIVE years if you take care of it like a laptop. Most of these annual upgrades are incremental and gimmicks.

A Pro or Plus 5.7" >< 6'' QHD screen model with slim bezels is also badly needed.
It will make more market sense if OnePlus makes two devices with similar specs but different screen sizes (5.5" and 5.7"--6'') and battery capacities (3500+mAh and 4000+mAh).

It's a real shame oneplus doesn't make more models and pulled the one plus x but I can understand that they want to focus on one great value flagship to sell, but it's risky as they put all their eggs in one basket. Only works as long as they are half the price. ...if that goes then....

Muni.Muni.Myaa, 24 May 2017I really really really want a mini OnePlus5 like 5 inch.6-inch variant for me, please. :) Until that one is released, not going to but their devices. Sad that my carrier sells OnePlus-phones in their shops too, but there are only 5.5" OnePlus-phones available.

Dope, it will likely come with machine learning algorithm like the Huawei Mate 9 XD

johnnkennedy, 24 May 2017LOL, Now 5 inch phone's are become mini version. I thin... moreBy today's standard, I think 5 inches screen is considered as mini. If they release which I really hope I would buy it. For 6 inches screen to be mini, our hands should be size of frying pan. That's your answer.

I think after few more years, 6 inch phone's are going to be the mini version.. :)

Anonymous, 24 May 2017more like 4.6 inchExactly, I hope the OnePlus team would (At Least) bring 4.7in to 5in as mini and 5.5in as normal size phone similar to iPhone with no compromise on specification. Maybe improvement on top and bottom bezel. That way people could have choice to have different sizes to their needs. As they are getting bigger in sales.
