Qualcomm is going with TSMC for 7nm Snapdragons, not Samsung

12 June 2017
Samsung built the S835 on its 10nm process this year. TSMC built the Apple A10 chips and will be making the A11 too.

No. The flaw was in qualcomm's design and not TSMC's manufacturing. TSMC did a much better job with Apple's chips than Samsung last year earning them repute. Samsung is known to mess things up everytime.

Maybe one day Samsung will outfit other manufacturers handsets with their chipsets and give Qualcomm a hell of a fight for market share.

Wait... Isn't the same TSMC the one who royally screwed Qualcomm with the infamous 810?

Maybe is another 810 on their way.

So - the manufacturers are limited to 2 namely Samsung and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor) - Intel and IBM (Globalfoundries) can't play in that big league?

                    Great news.
Samsung deliberatly cripples its snapdragon version phones to promote its exynos ones.
Guess qualcomm finally saw through the grape vines.
No buissness with Samsung is good buissness.

Well, in fact I don't know if it is better or not. I mean, not if it is better for Samsung, or for Qualcomm, or TSMC or LG, etc. But in general, sort of for the general technology itself (& so for us enthusiasts, customers, etc). But probably it won't makes a lot of difference who will build it or not, etc (obviously, apart for the huge profit, etc).

Samsung hoarded all the SD835s this year making it hard for competition to secure them. Probably why the move to TSMC so Samsung won't hog them all up.

I don't think that Samsung did play honest in this and Qualcomm seems to think this way too. Now that the initial batch of Galaxy S8 units has been sold, Samsung is of course shipping SD835 to other OEMs.

Anonymous, 12 Jun 2017WwwoooooooooThis is because Samsung screwed up Snapdragon 835 launch resulting in other OEMs could not launch with SD835. Samsung might artificially delayed SD835 to make sure that its own Galaxy S8 would be the first handset to feature the latest processor and to disturb compition.

I mean Sony was the first to bring the SD835 and then there are numerous Chinese phone brands with it. If you accumulate all of those OEM's Samsung still made plenty for everybody. I wont buy that stuff saying Samsung hogged all stocks or could even possibly do that since you have to order it first a year before it was even made.
