I don't care for this phone, but I don't think this should concern people too much at the moment, but if I were to preorder this phone(like I would ever preorder anything) I would keep my eye on recent news about company just in case.

ImJoaquinTheDog, 16 Jul 2017...And this is why you don't order a $700 phone from a firs... moreNo one ordered "paid" for a $700 phone. All people did was put themselves on a list, no credit card information was provided, which means, none of them are FORCED to purchase this phone, again, no one paid $700 and is waiting for the phone.

Kangal, 16 Jul 2017I think it will be a very similar story to the Nexbit Robin... moreNo. It will be like the notorious $4 smartphone. Very sketchy. Turns out it all just a big lie. Ringing Bells company from India scam the entire tech world to get their hands on this $4 phone, Freedom 251. Turns out to be just a chinese phone. It looks nothing like advertised. Right out of the box something not right when the phone has a blob of correction ink concealing the name of the device actual manufacturer. The Freedom 251 is actually the Adcom Ikon 4, an entry-level Chinese smartphone. Even the OS is ripped off from ios using android lollipop. Lol. Worst, Adcom have no idea Ringing Bells using their phone and Ringing Bells lie even more telling the customers that complaining it is just a "preview version". Wow! If this happened to all of Essential customers, you all going to regret. I have enough of too good to be true startup. They all liars. Greedy money sucking liars. Fake company that dont exist.

...And this is why you don't order a $700 phone from a first-time company.

Last year Andy Fouché and Brain Wallas they left their jobs at Magic Leap for join Andy Rubin, and now they left toghethere the company.
I hope no one hires with these two Shittyemployees.

Softbank was a important investor who pulled out early from Essential. So I am not sure they got a good financial situation now. I guess if they be delayed some more weeks, customers maybe will hold out for the new Pixel 2, the iPhone 8 or maybe the Nokia 9 flagship.
So we will see what happends.

Rubin a.k.a. poor Michael Keaton lookalike's overwhelming smarminess & conceited egotism will lead to his ultimate demise.
I'm all for competition - it's better for everyone. But this guy just doesn't have anywhere near what it takes to be a tech figurehead - or even close to likeable characteristics to be in the public realm.
This is now becoming apparent behind the scenes.

OnePlus One comes to mind, but that startup was backed by a Big Company to stay relevant (OPPO). Xiaomi as a startup is completely different beast, because they had a big investment round and took advantage of a market which was untapped: China with higher-end smartphones/Nexus-iPhone alternative.

Anonymous, 15 Jul 2017As if there's only one company shipping Android phones out ... moreBecause you see some competition on the high-end? Samsung is on their own planet. When you think about premium Android their name is usually the first thing you'll think about. Sony isn't really competing as it's not carried by most carriers. HTC neither. The Pixels? That didn't really got traction with customers. OnePlus is online-only with plenty of cheating included for no extra charge. LG is kind of doing it, but not really.

The only competition is on the low-end segment in developing markets. Midrangers are still fairly high-priced for their value. That excludes lame Chinese phones using refurb outdated components.
