one of the key ingredients to a phones success is making it available quickly
and Essential has not done this. It becomes even more worrying as Essential has no proven
presence in the market and the phone is not cheap and people are still waiting

Was not even announced by the company it self. It is all this "Journalist" that always made Nokia look bad, either from bad mouthing or from hyping a device that was not even announced, people havre to learn to have patience;).

The Mi Mix does not, so most developed countries users won't even notice it. And you know, it's not easy to repair a Xiaomi in NA, just in EU it can become quite hard to do so.

It is essential for the company to tell its essentially prospective buyers an essentially reasonable date else people will go for other essentially similar phones

AnonD-683536, 09 Aug 2017Mi mix 2 is coming now too. Essential shot itself in the foot Fully agree. Mi Mix 1 already was awesome, except for the crap Omnivision camera. Fixing that would make it truly formidable.
It will simply chew the Essential through and spit out the bits, it doesn't have the tiniest chance.
Add to that serious contenders like the iPhone 8, and overhyped crap like the S8 Note, it's pretty much dead already.

Spring and Autumn (especially Autumn) are the best times for releases, that's why every major manufacturer release at those times.

And Essential has nothing to do with the Chinese manufacturers, especially Xiaomi which doesn't even have an official US presence. The fact that their phone resembles a certain phone does not mean anything regarding their business plans.

AnonD-234961, 09 Aug 2017I think this delay may have been a deliberate action from A... moreI disagree.

The Essential was interesting primarily because it could have been a Mi Mix with a better form factor, better camera (in the same vein as Leica or Huawei), better availability and smooth Android experience. It was the only other real option to the Mi Mix and could have ridden the incredible buzz around that phone to early success. After that, the quality of the phone would have carried or lost the day. Rubin ensured that it would be taken seriously, but that's it. Remember, NextBit also had some engineering prowess behind it...

We are now entering the most competitive time of the year for smartphone releases. These are the REAL flagship phones from proven manufacturers with loyal customers. It is horrible timing to release the Essential at the same time as the iPhone 8, Note 8, V30 and Mi Mix 2.

The Note 7, before it blew up, was widely considered one of the best, if not THE best, smartphone ever made. After the smash hit of the s8 series, you can bet that Samsung has a few tricks up its sleeve with the Note 8 and I will be shocked if it isn't the top Android flagship of the year. The Note series also has a loyal customer baser who have been waiting for a long time to replace their beloved Note 7. The buzz around the Note 8 will be deafening and may drown out the marketing of any small player like Essential.

The LG V series has a huge following, especially among power users. This phone is being released in what appear to be very interesting colors and it is rumored to have a camera with a 1.6 aperture - the widest ever in a smartphone. Add in the excellent DAC these phones and known for, slimmer bezels than the LG G6, and an amoled screen and you have a worthy competitor for the Note 8. If LG gets the battery life right, then even the Note 8 better not fall asleep.

The iPhone 8 is looking more and more like the best smartphone of the year. All of the rumors and leaks make it a formidable alternative for anyone shopping for a phone this early fall.

That brings us to Essential's real competition, Mi MIx 2, Huawei Mate 10, etc. The Mi Mix 2 will, like the Mi Mix before it, make all other devices seem ugly and antiquated, If the renders are correct, then it will be another worldwide hit for Xiaomi. The Huawei Mate 9 was an incredible phone all around. The Mate 10 looks even better.

Look, I am rooting for Essential. I pre-ordered one the day it was announced. I really hope it succeeds and Rubin's vision is realized. I just think that timing is everything and Essential has really screwed it up. Any problems at all with the release, and they will be done. Quite frankly, in a perfect world, Essential would pull back and release its phone in November or early December when the media is searching for a new darling. When before, at the time of announcement, Essential PH-1 could have a been a slam dunk summer purchase, now it risks being nothing more than a small tree trying to find a little light at the feet of giants.

This is definetly most of the best of the best choice to have IPS LCD QHD phablet and I like to have LCD choice. This even make Amoled more pricier line to keep lcd and rise amoled line costs thats good.

I think this delay may have been a deliberate action from Andy Rubin. Essential aims to release their phone exactly when the competitors are releasing their flagships, it is actually much smarter to do this at this time. The Essential Phone will not be eclipsed by Samsung and LG, because their phones are just "more of the same", only by Apple but Apple will release the iPhone 8 later than Samsung and LG.
