The f2.0 for a 1/2.3" is not same of f2.0 for 1/2.5" for example.
You have to count light per unit.
Check DxO review XZP and Note 8. The picture of a room people eat there. XZP uses a lower ISO than Note 8.
A f1.6 for tiny sensor like 1/3" is useless.
Cameras use f3.8, f4.2, f5.0 because they have giant sensors.
Imx400 has pixel size of 1.22, bigger than on LG or iphones.
Pixel 2016 = 1/2.3" , f2.0, 1.55 micron
Pixel 2017 = 1/2.6", f1.8" , 1.4 micron
It has f1.8 now because sensor is smaller than previous phone.
Also even with 1.2 micron , there are 19 million of them to capture light.
High MP is better if the user decides to print the pics. Most are using 12MP because Apple does, also it does not crop much and you wont see noise .
Check it on a big screen, a 20MP or 16MP pic will look much better than the 12MP.
Another mistake people do is to stretch the pic until the max, it is way more than 400%. Of course will be ugly.
Bigger photo can be stretched more than a mid size photo.
Lets consider a 12MP as 12 units of area, 19MP as 19 units of area.
You crop 100%, it is 2x ....
12x 2= 24
19x2= 38
Difference was 7, now 14.
Also the tests on internet are done wrong.
If a phone A has 25mm lens, phone B has 28mm lens then phone A should be placed closer to object compared to phone B.
Manual mode= same settings should be used to see what software can do.
OIS is better for smaller sensors, many cameras do not have OIS.
I also doubt it would work fast enough for Predective Capture or Hybrid AF..
Even this sites admits the daylight shots of XZP are better than S8, G6 or even U11

Man Sony just needs to bring their mobile camera on par with competition all else is perfect. I sold my s7Edge in March and bought x compact just because I was bored of that phone and I don't have an regret for my decision. This phone is so awesome and only $700 NZD. Flagships are twice the price and my phone doesn't even feels like a cheap phone.

Notification LED is not working after oreo update in XZ premium also incoming/Outgoing caller screen doesn't get updated as mentioned in the Sony official video.
Any one facing the same issue.

Sony may make the sensor, but they don't make the entire camera module for OEMs. The lens, along with optional features like OIS, is handled by other suppliers. For their own phones, though, Sony does make their own "G-Lens" equipped modules. The details and quality of which we don't really know a whole lot about.

The hardware is just getting old now with the considerably slow f2.0 (on today's standards for flagships) with still high megapixel count but not-so-large sensor (larger than others, but the others have way less megapixels which result to larger pixel sizes) and finally, OIS.
If Sony would re-imagine everything again, then they could easily be on top again in cameras just like they did back in the Xperia Z to Z2.
But I guess they're never doing that again for a fact that their point-and-shoot Cybershot lineup would become irrelevant. Either they stop their Cybershot lineup first and focus on smartphone cameras or continue the same exact sad story of poor cameras on Xperias forever.
But to be fair, I did notice some effort of improvements on Sony's cameras.

That gaming notification is pretty awesome... Can individually block notifications for now but would love to see others having this feature too.

Their comment stands. Sony has great tech and finally started improving. Lets hope next year they actually really kick it up. And maybe add OIS into the mix. And dont give me that bs where EIS is better or crap like that. It took years for their eis to catch up and it doesnt replace OIS. And they can be used together.

Unfortunately no love for the Z5 and Z3+/Z4 family. Sony should provide Oreo updates to these phones as well.

Cool as always. My favourite lovely Sony. Even my Z3 works fine. Sony is all about quality and optimization.
