Anonymous, 30 Dec 2017Sony's dumb why not increase the resolution to 2K and offer... moreSony is not dumb for doing it. They're just considerate of the pricing coz when Sony says it's a midrange device, it is really going to be a midrange phone priced correctly. Unlike Samsung that claims their A8 and A8+ 2018 are midrange but with the same price as the Mate 10 by Huawei. All the things being rumored here has a greater chance to become real than not.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2017Sony's dumb why not increase the resolution to 2K and offer... more1) Why should they? They can already make a crappy SoC like the Helio P20 look amazing in actual use.
        2) They don't have an obligation to throw in an SD660. It's a $300 phone and you need just the SD630 to compete.
        3) This phone isn't a waste. It'll perform better down the road than the Crapsung Galaxy S8 you're typing on.

Sony's dumb why not increase the resolution to 2K and offer a better chipset like the 660 or the upcoming 670, what a waste this is a low-to-midrange phone.

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2017What do you think about these: Xiaomi Mi Note 3 Oppo R11s... moreYes , i know , i know , i know . Xiaomi Mi Note 3 , not-yet announced Samsung Galaxy C10 , and Oppo R11s/R11s+ are the phablets are using Snapdragon 660 chipsets for a great price ranging 400-450 Euro . I understand that as these 3 phablets did made it balance between price and specs for a phablet size . But there's keys from these phablets what made you decided to put it in . R11s is Oppo's top of the line / flagship in Oppo's lineup (as their flagships was taken by their subsidiary , OnePlus with 5T) and they always used S660 as top the line since their true flagship derived to 1+ in 2014 , and always price ranging 390-500 Euro , Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is degradation version in terms of specs from the flagships Mi Note 1/2 as now has S600-high-end series instead of S800 series and priced just a bit below Mi Note 2 when was launched , which quite surprising . Still , some people regretted the way Xiaomi did with Mi Note 3 by vertically sinking mobility from flagship phablet to super mid-range phablet series . S660 used in Mi Note 3 at least has a root what Redmi Note 3 with S650 used to be in my perspective . And C10 hasn't been announced yet although i bet it has super-mid-range series specs and price (it's confirmed but yet-to-be-publicization)

Back to Sony . it's quite difficult to sort it out tbh as its complex as hell . But here we go..... Even though i understand your point of your comments : "These are some examples of phablets that have a decent prices with Snapdragon 660 chipsets on it and if there's a probability , Sony should do it again" , remind you dude , Sony Xperia XA Ultra series wasn't strategized with those phones you mentioned in the first place despite having a price of near what you have mentioned earlier 400-450 Euro , approx. 380 Euro when launched . It's because Xperia XA Ultra and XA status and price was increased by Sony as Xperia X F51xx and X Compact F53xx discontinued due lost to its segment and XAU and XA used to have a 200-300 Euro price for its original one . Other details you can check my previous reply . I already explained it detailed about XA Ultra . It's quite tiring to restated a statement again .....

But we don't know thus far will be S400 series or MT67xxT series .

Yes , i don't like monopoly/duopoly going on smartphones (the OEM itself or the components parts producer) at all as competition just die off , yet as for 2nd gen of XA series , i think Sony wants to have some features that have been on their flagships to put it on their true mid-range in perfectly-timing and high-demanding such as 4K video recording , more-fast-and-timely-updates , unlock boot-loaders that few of them missing on Sony MTK devices and others , that possibly some MTK chipsets couldn't do the tasks , so they passed Snapdragon for their mid-rangers for the first time since Xperia M4 Aqua (S615) .

I like mediatek, but they aren't doing any good to earn my sympathy.
They abuse GPL, and do not release source code in public, they do not release the code to companies, whom they sell SoC-s. They charge a fee for a code. And this is a reason , (one of the reasons) , the companies delay updates for a devices with Mediatek chips.
No open source code is a reason, they don't have much developers and you can't find ROM's for your device.

For a company battling giant (Qualcomm) and in a need of public support, they aren't doing anything right. And if they lose , it will be their fault.

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2017This phablet with sd660 was new beginning but it wasn't too... moreSeem you didn't understand this case about Sony Phablet lineup .... S660 is a super/high-end mid-range Qualcomm chipset , placed higher than S630 and S636 , and it was announced with S630 , while S636 was later on . And you already know since the original XA Ultra back in 2016 , XA Ultra Series isn't and never considered as Super Mid-Range / Premium Standard of Xperia lineup by Sony itself judging by their portofolio , but rather as Upper Mid-Range as it's leading Sony mid-range lineup with XA1+ .

If Sony still produced now-discontinued Premium Standard and equipped by S660 that you wanted , it would be Xperia X successor that won't see the lights of the day that was also never been a phablet , as it was axed in 2017 by Sony due wasn't meeting the target sales , nevertheless Xperia X was based on Xperia M5 . Sony hasn't made a super-mid-range-size-phablet since the start of Xperia (Z Ultra is a flagship phablet and T2 Ultra & C5 Ultra is their mid-ranges) .

XAx Ultra series was continuation of Xperia's T and C series that never equipped by the-highest Snapdragon 600 series in its lifetime , but rather a Mediatek inside . Besides , Xperia XA Ultra series is inline with Xiaomi Redmi Note , Moto Z Play / X4 , Samsung Galaxy A5 , Oppo F5 and co. that only-once / never equipped with S650/652/653/660 . So , i say it's fair Sony to put S630 on XA2 , XA2 Ultra with XA2+ as those successor to XA1 lineup was a mid-range all the time , not Super mid-range / Premium Standard .

If the companies kept relying on one resource for chipsets the competition will die and this tech will not evolve and there will be no prices competition.
