Perhaps instead of changing the terms for getting GApps on Android just yet, they could instead start promoting Chrome OS for phones, and in time seize further development of Android so as to push the remaining stubborn few into Google's hands.

€750 for this .. lol.. get yourself a Samsung S9, Pixel 2 XL or iPhone 8 plus, heck even a Huawei P20 pro.
These can all be found on sale quite a few places near this price.

Stock Android gives you a mostly blank canvas, that is still beautiful in its minimalism. If you want extras you may go to the Play Store for it. Stock Android gives me control over the device, and the most complete and consistent performance out there.
Samsung, LG, Sony, and pretty much all Chinese OEMs can go fuck themselves. Everyone would be better off if they released fewer phones, and if the phones they launched came with stock or near stock Android. If that were to happen, updates would be out, across the field of Android devices, within months of a new release, rather than never or six months to a year later.

Google should honestly just do to Android what they've done to Chrome OS, into the future. Yes, OEMs may add apps, but the software stays the same, so that Google can release updates centrally.

N... moreNokia isn't what it was, but HMD Global, a Finnish company, with HQ's on the other side of the road from the actual old Nokia, does exactly as much with their phones as Google or Apple does. Just because it's a new company that licences the Nokia name, doesn't mean it isn't Nokia, they're made up of people from the old Nokia, and they work with them frequently. They're starting up anew, and thus have some evolving to do, but are still better than or on par with most other smartphone brands, especially because of their use of Android One.

Nokia atm is only...a brand name nothing more and is sad. Nokia unfortunately hired S. Elop as CEO. Elop deleted promising project - MeeGo as well as Symbian. MeeGo was to be created with Intel and other partners. Lack of Symbian and MeeGo development caused a big drop in sales, people switched to Android. Then introduced Windows Phone, which was still lame. Windows Phone development not allow to treat it as the main system! No other company producing telephones had only Windows Phone in offer...
Slow development, lack of many functions, options and above all the lack of programs and games caused little interest in people and tragic sales. Then Nokia, whose shares on the stock exchange recorded a continuous downtick by Elopa sold the mobile department ... to Microsoft. Where did Stephen Elop work before? He was an employee of Microsoft ;) Microsoft after a short time of continuing a failed idea with Windows Phone / Mobile ceased work and part of the phone department sold...yes, to Foxconn!
Today is just a sign on phone nothing more. Nokia itself doesn't design phones, doesn't design the whole system, gui, is not a pioneer, doesn't show news stuff as the largest sensor in the phones in the Nokia Pure View 808 ;)
                                  Nokia 8 S ? Maybe for 500€...

You may say neither is enough as the physical hardware product is manufactured elsewhere, but that's commonplace at this point.
