ARM unveils Cortex-A76 and Mali-G76 - higher performance, better power efficiency

01 June 2018
Both are optimized for machine learning and will be built on a 7 nm process.

tangbunna, 01 Jun 2018enough reason to skip all the phone models this year. wait ... moreA57? Did you mean the successor of the A55 efficiency core? A57 is used long ago as a high-performance core put in big cluster, and if things gone wrong, it will overheat badly. Put 8 of those A57's, overclock at a constant speed of 2.5 GHz each, and you'll may be able to start a campfire xD

Looks good, we need better graphics on today's phones, looks like graphic progress stagnate on mobile phones, welcome improvement, maybe it's mean we will get GTA 4 port soon :)

Fulljack, 03 Jun 2018nope, gtx 1060 has 192 GB/s bandwidth while rx 480 has fast... moreYou both are wrong.
Its not about bandwidth, nor about per-core performance. It's about balance.

You need to have large cache to store memory code, then you need good per-core performance to have high-chance of correct rasterisation each cycle, then you need many cores so that each millisecond you have high throughput, then to transport all that data you need the high bandwidth to prevent bottlenecking, and lastly you need optimisation on the Driver, Operating System, Application aspects.

This is why when you scale from low resolution to higher resolution, and lower graphical setting to higher... you need a more exponential increase in hardware. And that software can make all the difference.
Eg/ Launch R9 290X was losing to the GTX 780, especially on titles like Battlefield 3, yet now since getting a slow but steady flow of driver updates, and the massive one that was the 2016 AMD Crimson ReLive update... that same card is faster than the GTX 780Ti. And its no surprise, because on-paper, it was always superior. Yet, compare that to the GTX 980 which is also produced on the same 28nm lithography and still has worse specs than the 390X... the GTX 980 still pulls ahead because it is the more optimised and efficient system.

Moj, 02 Jun 2018umm no, in the end it's all about optimization anyways. cud... morenope, gtx 1060 has 192 GB/s bandwidth while rx 480 has faster 224 GB/s yet the later still perform worse on some titles

Fulljack, 02 Jun 2018umm no, in the end it's all about optimization anyways. cud... moreumm no, in the end it's all about optimization anyways. cuda cores are the stream processor that made up it's compute unit. for an example, RX 580 has 36 CUs (2304 SP) while GTX 1060 has 32 CUs (2048 CUDA), but both perform similarly.
there are more factors than raw counting of number of CU and SP!
if memory couldn't catch up with performance of GPU than it all is useless! think of a G101(if i was right it is GPU of TITAN xp) with tiny 2GB and 128bit memory, it would perform very very poor. the reason those 2 graphic card perform the same is there different bandwidth.

NANI?!?!?! Don't tell me that Qualcomm will release another duo like the SNAPDRAGON 820 and SNAPDRAGON 821...

Fulljack, 02 Jun 2018umm no, in the end it's all about optimization anyways. cud... moreYes it is about optimization which is why an ARM chip, especially the new snapdragon 1000 could actually preform pretty well in windows laptops and take advantage of the GPU. It was never a fight about if AMD or NVIDIA is better. The idea is about using what you have to get the most out of it. Running in parallel doesn't make it any less attractive.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2018You need some serious Education about chipsets!!!That is semi correct.
Older chipsets (as in the cores) Are INDEED more power efficient as they produce lower power (compared to newer cores). Place an A15 on 10nm node, compare preformance to 32nm.. you got your answer.

They just waste battery life, reduce gaming performance, increase heat and GPU throttling, ... It's just a brainwashing gimmick from corporations who want to delude consumers so they will spend their money on useless things, gimmicks, and corporations can continue selling.

It's also true for video recording. 720p and 1080p is perfectly enough for everything. It have reached the peak point of what is useful. Higher resolutions don't bring any useful benefit.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2018FIrstly, What does notch or curved displays or glass bodies... moreNotch, curved display, glass body make the phones much worse. In other words these are downgrades. Manufacturers should stop downgrading phones. These phones aren't meant to be smartphones, high tech tools. These garbage glass phones become jewels and status symbols, fashion accessories. Manufacturers are focusing on fashion design, because there is nothing else remained for them to develop on phones, but they still want to sell new phones every year. So they brainwashed consumers, so they buy these garbage glass, curved display, notched phones.
