Ambitious, but knowing that Smsung will release it's foldable phone, it will put Huawei back to backseat while Samsung will dominate market again, oh well maybe next time

Unable to sell in US and Australia? Nipping at the heals of the company that invented the smartphone and sells world wide. A few bumbs along the way but what cell phone manufacturer has a perfect record. WA Way is hungry and that puts pressure on all of them to bring their A Game. Win win for us. Would love for the K980 to destroy the 845 and par the 855. Now that would be fun.

If the Kirin 980 is a beast and the Mate 20 and P30 turn out to be great phones, it just might happen. Screw all the US fearmongering about spying when in fact the US pretty much is the biggest spying nation in the world.

Huawei is a threat to Apple, WTO rules apply on protectionism, so the US uses "national security" to circumvent WTO rules. (Personally I have neither Apple nor Huawei products, but I do follow things that may affect my investment approach. My view is that the US stock market is overvalued and they are trying protectionism. It will work - for a while.

Dude QHD is just numbers you cant really see that difference and even gsmarena guys on there long term review of the P20 pro have explained how they even forgot its a 1080p screen! That 1080 AMOLED is just fine! One thing would like to differ with you is on battery life. Samsung flagships always show good endurance rating on benchmarks and when their phones are new, but after sometimes the battery is not as stellar as before, and that's where Huawei beats the competition. Because their phones still mantains that stellar performance and good battery life even on long term use. Kirin 970 is just fine, and my phone has never lagged or starter at anything even on graphic intensive games like PUBG. So if i may ask what is the most important thing that you always want from your smartphone? Comparing the benchmarks that doesn't even make a difference in real life performance or having that smartphones that just works for you and never disappoints you?? Kirin processor is much different from snapdragon processor, Kirin is tuned best to work with EMUI and that's why they work best with Huawei phones no matter how you compare the benchmarks with Snapdragon.

Josh, 04 Aug 2018Dude do you even go through reviews??! Are you actually usi... moreJust to clarify, I did not mean the screen on the P20 Pro is "bad." I only meant that it seems to be lacking compared to competitors, as well as in other aspects of the phone.
Tell me, a 1080p notched panel on the Huawei, and a 1440p panel from the Samsung Galaxy S9+, who is better?
Even in GSMArena testing, the Samsung panel is brighter and has more contrast. The S9+ gives similar battery life to the P20 Pro, so the screen features aren't hurting anything. Even the iPhone X has a similar screen, but with better contrast, color accuracy, and sunlight legibility. The LG V30/V35 has a similar screen to the Galaxy, although plagued with certain issues that may be deal breakers.
Now, surely you must admit that the Kirin 970, while powerful, is not on the ranks of the Snapdragon 845, A11 Bionic, and Exynos 9810 in benchmarks and power efficiency, and perhaps in daily use.
And what about Android features that the world used to take for granted, like a microSD slot, headphone jack, and I'll say it again, no notch? What about waterproofing? All of these features are on the Galaxy and LG V30/35, and at least a few of them are on other phones, like the G7, Google Pixel 2, HTC U12, etc.
And now, EMUI is not everyone's favorite, but that's a subjective debate. Especially since Huawei disabled bootloader unlocking.
Battery life on the Huawei is very good. But, if you look at GSMArena endurance ratings, again, the Samsung and LG V30 are similar.
Which brings us to the one thing that people seem to agree upon, the camera. I will say, it is excellent, and still better than any other flagship on the market. Its power and features were unprecedented in a smartphone, but yet, its capabilities are still limited which was outlined before.
So, you are paying the above $800 for a phone, where most of its features lag behind its competitors, but you decide to compromise because of the best-in-class camera.
Whether or not you like the phone and buy it, it's your choice, not mine.

When the hell are they gonna fix the auto dimming of the screen and when will the video recording really be up to today's standards ? Until they will fix this, they will not become the top manufacturer of smartphones .

Are you actually usi... moreThe P20P uses a weak Kirin 970 which pretends to match SD845's performance with the fictional "GPU Turbo", which despite Huawei's deceptive advertisements, only works with specific optimization from software devs. Adreno's the real deal, GPU Turbo is just a custom driver that only works in very specific apps.
The so-called "world's first" (Apple's A11 was the one that shipped first on the iP8, Huawei just launched a PPT first) NPU has yet to find one single use. The gimmicky "AI mode" gets blasted by reviews all around, even the amateurs find the AI filters repulsive. There's no evidence that the pseudo long exposure needs any "AI" intervention as Sony's RX100, released many years ago, already had multiframe NR with similar effects.
Out of the dozens of reviews I've read, as a general rule, the more professional and detailed the review, the less favorable it views the P20P's imaging qualities. Phonearena's shootouts, the photo comparisons on this site (including the photo comparison tool which clearly shows the P20P's ugly smearing and oversharpening), Anandtech's highly detailed review with a thorough set of samples, this photographer who wrote a comprehensive analysis here: https://pocketnow.com/huawei-p20-pro-photographers-guide
They point to an overall lack of detail retention in auto mode, how the P20P falls short before its 3x optical zoom kicks in, and bad taste of the processing, how the 40MP doesn't really retain much more detail compared to 10MP auto while taking up so much space, and especially Phonearena who did the interesting comparison of a 40MP low light shot compared with Pixel2XL's auto, boy was that ugly. Also strange jagged highlight edges at night and how the pseudo long exposure smears excessively and has problems removing ghosts...
And before you use DxO as a shield, though DxO is already less than trustworthy in the photographic community, P20P's is probably DxO's most controversial review ever. It was also written by "Lars Rehm" who wrote in favor of other smearing cameras too, maybe the guy has weak eyesight so he can't tell smear from detail. Countless comments below use live examples, even DxO's own, to show that the P20P's not worth the score nor the hype.
Curiously, those who comment in favor of that review almost never use actual samples or even arguments regarding specific aspects of performance to make a stand, instead they show an assortment of blind faith and appealing to authority("DxO is professional blah blah", without any proof to back up that claim, "so they must be right blah blah", "You're all here reading the review therefore you must believe them blah blah"), and often make simple factual mistakes("Pixel's samples retained more detail, therefore they must have used more sharpening" LMAO). I wonder why?
So little Huawei drone, your rant doesn't stand.

Too bad they're banned in US. But they don't really need them, here in Colombia for example their phones are pretty popular.
They're behind Samsung and Apple (ugh), of course, but a nice third place ain't bad.
