New professional Canon camera EOS-1D has only 18,1 MP. And it's the best what Canon have. Why they did not put at least 30 MP?
May be they do not know, that more MP is better quality?

Nokia has a 12mp camera out already that can hardly be called a competitor among the GSII,iPhone4/4s or Gnex...Megapixels matter yes. but without a good sensor they are trash... megapixel's are a marketing scam. What good is 18MP's if you dont have good glass? Besides unless your blowing your pictures up to massive sizes megapixels matter even less.

Why should I carry camera, video recorder, netbook and who knows what else, when I can have everything in one tiny device (with some restrictions of course).
That's the future dude and that's the progress.
I made thousands of pictures using my N8 and hundreds of movies and they look really good. On tv, or computer. What else could I possibly want?
And...please, be honest,...you wouldn't recognize photos made by N8 and Compact camera (I'm talking about average user and average camera, not Canon powershot G12 or sth like this). I got this Canon, and you know what? I don't carry it all the time. What for? I got tiny device in my pocket and it's really good in most situations.

You guys are funny. Yeah, right. Cheap 4S has better camera than other phones. Yeah, right, keep dreaming. I think you've just seen pictures from the mobile "weloveapple" review, or some samples straight from apple.
And why the hell should I play with editing pcitures. I want to take a picture and I want this picture to be good. WITHOUT editing.
And no...you are wrong. You'are saying that because you are Iphone or ICS lover. If NExus have 8 pmx or 12 you would say: HEY "so many mpx, eat that other phones!". But when it became obvious your precious new nexus will have only , yes ONLY, 5 mpx, it's ok, fair, good, amazing, etc. ICS won't improve your camera abilities so much as you are hoping it will.
Second, android never been good in photography postprocessing, and it looks like, won't be this time too.
And yes, more mpx make a difference, if those mpx come along with good software, postprocessing, optics and knowledge how to make good cameras (eg. Nokia N82, N86, N73, N8...or SE: Hazel, Elm, Arc has some strange issues which is quite strange taking into consideration SE was really good in camera department).

lol HTC phone,sure.
this phone is amazing the only bad thing here is 5mp but ICS might cover that up u can easy edit pic and do live effects u got some cool sensors and no leg.
so why u need 8 or 12mp?! it wont metter now u got high res,u dont need high mp it wont change the quality at all.

It is really hilarious for the Samsung fans to now defend lower MP in cameras, after all the insults they dished out before. Of course, all this will change when 16MP camera comes out. Samsung fans have no class.

And cameras in phones are cheap. More pixels higher retail price.
They increase pixels, but it's not quality :) 8MP on iPhone has better quality then phones with 12MP.
But don worry, in daylight almost all phone cameras are good these days.

Especially when a 1.5 ghz qualcom processor doesnt make better scores the the 1.2 ghz exyonos one. NO HTC device offers a full HD AMOLED display, and the GS2 suffers with its low resolution, even tho its an amoled plus. The only downside I see in this phone is the 5mp camera, but seriously how many people actually care about that? Nonetheless, no other device out there from any android building company beats the nexus, not yet at least.

Why does all the exclusive previews have to be blurry and shot by the worst person in the business, i mean whoever shot this video, shot it while holding the camera upside down (mostly a camera phone) and its blurry!!
But as for the phone, Ice Cream Sandwich is looking great.

find it hard to believe google will let its developer phone be owned by a CDMA carrier, there should at least be a unlocked GSM version sold on google website

Wait for the retail price. You think you need more than a 1,2 - 1,2 dual core plus 1 gb ram, 1280 x 720 pxs! (think about the gpu - cpu load on that), and no overlays like timescape, touchwith... plus the benefit of being the first ones to get google updates?.
Think about the iPhone.
If you want more than 5 mpx go and get a camera/camcorder.

technically speaking as long as you are not printing the number of megapixels dont matter much.. but on a phone, most of which rely on digital focus and not optical focus, you need way more megapixels if you wanna zoom in.

12MP/8MP is better than 5MP where you could crop your pictures to get a closer view. There aren't any zoom lens in most of the handphones so the only way to get a zoom in shot is to have a high Megapixel with very less noise and you crop it for a closer view. Forget about digital zoom, cropping a big size picture is better
To get a sharp, lesser noise, better image quality still depends on what sensor manufacturer are used in the nexus prime, size of the sensor, aperture and lens maker

On small pictures MP does not mean anything!! My old camera with 3 MP makes way better pictures than iPhone4s (which has good camera)

Interesting phone...however, no Samsung Nexus will ever be as good as the HTC One. The Amaze, and even the Galaxy S II, are better than this one.
Come on, Google! Give the next Nexus back to HTC! If not, they'll release the Amaze XE...best music, camera, and specs of any phone!
