"So if you fall from a ladder, for example, the watch will prompt you with a message asking if you would like to call 911. And if you remain motionless for more than 5 seconds, Siri will call an ambulance automatically."

So, what if I jump from a diving board into a swimming pool and decide to stay still underwater for more than 5 seconds, before rising up to the surface. People often do that. Would that call 911?

s4 is 7nm?, 12 Sep 2018what process does the S4 SoC use? 7nm? I'm sure that not... moreWe don't know yet.

However, the first-gen Apple Watch SoC (S1) was made in 28nm and used a standard architecture (suspect Cortex A7).
The S2 was the same microarchitecture as the S1, slight clock bump, but in 14nm. This explains the big disparity in the battery life.
The S3 used the same 14nm lithography, but used a new custom microarchitecture. Overall, slight improvements to battery life, but it did have extra functions, and had a noticeably snappier interface.

Rumours pointed that the S4 will still use the same microarchitecture of the S3, however, it would get a slight refinement to the same lithography as the A11, basically to Samsung's +10nm process. I think the rumours are on-point, I don't see Apple jumping onto the limited and expensive 7nm process for their watches which are more of a niche compared to their phones. Besides, the latest Samsung Watch is using this same process.

Well, you're definitely gonna need that heart rate sensor and ECG for the Apple Watch. Because you're definitely gonna have high blood pressure and possibly a heart attack at the prices of those iPhones (the Xs and Xs Max). :)

Anonymous, 13 Sep 2018For most of us, it's the best smart watch there is. The FDA... moreAs soon as tomorrow, Polar will present two models Vantage M and Vantage V that are oriented towards sports. It is useless to run out of battery in 5 hours with gps if you go hiking, climbing or a medium-long distance trail. If you suffer an accident or setback past that time when the body begins to really tire, what you have is a clock without a battery.

Depending on the type of training you do, for example those based on power or fatigue, it is important to know the parameters of oxygen saturation in blood, or the level of lactate. Apple watch don't offer it to you, the multisport personalized trainning intervals aren't there too, etc.

Specifically the Vantage V model will offers you 40 hours of active GPS, multiple optical sensors (9 leds) and surprise, it seems due to the leaked images that it'll come with 4 electrodes (EKG.EI), all together, and probably maps like some Garmin watches. It's all under NDA but tomorrow all will be revealed. What does allow you to go out to practice sports for a long time safely without having to carry extra weight, such as additional batteries, etc.

Oh and one last detail, the approval of the FDA is only valid in the USA, so those functions probably will be disable out there till be approved. Stay tunned for tomorrow (Thursday) if you are looking for EKG functions oriented to the sports. Probably the Vantage M and V will be the first watches with that purpose till Garmin or Suunto update their watches with them too.

                                  I'm sure that not 28nm like Qualcomm's new 3100.
                                  Samsung Galaxy watch uses 10nm.
So I wonder what Apple is using.

Apple Watch has since the first model used wrist detection, its an integral part of it. Also, if you cared to listen to the event they explained how it works, how they identified common body movements that occur with a fall, how the arms are thrown up or out or whatever, and then capturing the essence of it to create a simple yet unmistakable detection of simple moves that indicate a fall. As usual the worries from the android camp are moot.

if you remain motionless for more than 5 seconds, Siri will call an ambulance automatically. What if I'm just sleeping? What if my watch falls and I forget to pick it uo? What if siri calls ambulance in these cases? Imo it should be 15 seconds of motionless when siri calls the ambulance though this is one of the best watches
