[deleted post]I think you'll also find that iphone has had a voice feature from DAY 1 which, considering it was released a year before the first android phone, you'll find that Apple had it first.

The difference is that Apple continue to innovate their voice action features whilst Android waits to see what Apple have done & then copy, iris being the case in point. & like all Android copies of iphone, it's a poor copy at best.

Siri is the biggest rip-off from Android Voice Action you will ever see. Unauthorized iPhone unlocking with Siri is probably a bigger fail.

huh? unauthorized unlock? this show how much you don't know other product and making yourself a joke. you can choose to allow or disallow Siri unlock your device.

just like google choose to implement flash that has no future. and flash doesn't really work well on mobile phone. but fans boy always say we have flash we have flash that can't play all the flash code. lol. so yea.

This tells me how much fanboy u are.

Siri was first voice-controlled app released in 2008 for iPhone in appstore.

          Apple Bought Siri.
and now Siri integrated into 4S and people use Voice-Control (from 3GS onwards).

perhaps vlingo released for android in 2010 or atmost 2009 ending.

almost 1.5 years delay for android.

and now Eric (CEO) is beating his head since every 4S user is using Siri instead of google search.
and soon their search business on mobile phones go u_u (just like flash) and mobile-ads also effected adversely.

Because now android has Siri copycat (Iris) and who use google search now ? ^^

just wanted to point out thar siri is not some wonderful invention by apple...it was a third party app being developed for ALL PLATFORMS...

its on apple because they paid money for exclusivity...a smart move...but no innovation here

Anonymous, 13 Nov 2011Wow wonder how many millions they spent on this feature.I guess it won't take up as much resources as you would expect.. facial recognition has been around for sometimes, usually found in laptops and PCs.. but this i believe is the first time it is implemented in a phone as part of its OS.. maybe there were other phones who already had it, but as part of the OS, maybe it's the first time.. so yeah, the resources are not spent inventing, but finding a way to put it in the phone.. which i guess not that hard as well..

It's quite a hard one to get round for google here. They could wait for the user to blink, or for facial muscles to contract / relax.. but then again this could be duped by a video. I personally can't see a way round to make it not be dupable?
It's really more of a gimic, much like Siri, it has no real purpose.

Blankman, 13 Nov 2011I think you need to get a clue as you don't know how Siri w... moreUnless you are a disabled, Siri proves to be more of a 'fun' thing than a real practical use.. well, i won't want people in the bus hear what i want to say to my friends.. it's just so weird talking to your phone.. but facial recognition, it's practical.. and judging from the video, it works instantly.. you don't need to have british/american/aussie accents, heck you don't need to be able to talk even, to use this.. the only reason why fingerprint readers are harder to fool is because it is harder to get a photo of a fingerprint.. if it is as easy as taking a photo like that guy did with the galaxy note, fingerprint readers are not that hard to fool..
So, while Siri is more refined, you can't forget the fact that it takes idea from the likes of vlingo and google voice.. and practicality issue? Well, not much, unless like i said, you are a disabled or constantly driving your car.. but facial unlock, yes, it provides much more security than the patented slide to unlock.. and guess what, we can still use pattern lock and pin lock.. so, i guess it's not a failure, more like oversensitive reaction..

Did he set-up the face detection using his face or did he used the photo to setup the face detection? just wondering... BTW I use alienware m11x and face detection. It is faster than typing my password but it can be fooled by a picture when set at lower sensitivity.

I just hope there's a way around this face unlock thing for the user, I mean, what happens when you accidentally bump your face against something, or worse still, develop serious acne overnight? Do you wait till your face recovers its default look before you can access your phone? :)

How to you think the software records the pattern ? Isn't like this records the depth of the subject.

mick, 13 Nov 2011You don't understand, face unlock isn't about security! It'... morethis is not for faster unlocking....unlocking itself takes only about half a second, this is simply a gimmick if its purpose is not for security (which is what is was designed for, similar to face unlock on some laptops). just face the fact that google blundered and wait for their fix, geez.....

The software behind it is still preeety rudimentary . Its a face recognition in its early form.

But gotta give cred to google , it unlocks the phone instantly wich is awesome. Not being verry practical, but, its a good way to impress your friends :) And its still relatively safe compared to other methods of unlock. For every password theres a hack so no matter how much ppl try to improve security theres still some1 who will break it.
