Anonymous, 18 Nov 2011by the time this will be available, there will be rumors of... moreWe already know there will be a successor called Wayne which arrives next year so that's a given. Ten times more powerful than Tegra 2 and over 5 times more powerful than Tegra 3 Kal-El. Just wait till 2015, NVIDIA Stark, by that time what you used to call a phone will be an entirely different machine altogether, I would like to think that the form of the phone will have some kind of Flexible OLED or some other form of advanced materials which Nokia and Samsung have showcased or that holographic games and video calling may well be a reality within the decade.

While I can sympathise with some, people just fear change as the old saying goes.

ask people what they want, they'll reply faster horses. Ask some (not all) gsmarena commenters what they want, and they'll pick what was good yesterday rather than adapting for tomorrow.

No fifth core in quad-core design like NVIDIA did with the Tegra 3 Kal-el?!
This is going to be a powerhog otherwise.

              O c'mon people!
Stop complaining about an overkill. Firstly, progress moving in direction of having a PC in your pocket.

And regarding software: have you ever seen an application, written for non existing yet hardware? I don't think so. Sp present state is natural, but non lasting long.
But due to fast progress - single, dual, quad, and soon octa and sexdec core tyechnology in ARM processors, new ARM software architecture should be developed that will allow software to fully utilise all present and future numbers of cores.

chimpu, 17 Nov 2011Are there advances in battery technology to support power h... moreYes, there's a recently discovered technology that will make li-ion cells 10 times more efficient. The only problem is that they lose 50% of their capacity after about 150 charges. Considering that I'm almost 100% positive they'll pack more power-hungry hardware with it it means dramatical loses of capacity in a short time. But still it's far superior to current li-ion cells.

Get diablo 3 when its released and see if that runs on your 400Mhz processor ;)

Qualcomm and Nvida and Samsung all need to collaborate with ARM and come up with a shared architecture as the basis of all new ARM processors...

But work on efficiency and battery life and work on a few 1gig processors that last 3x longer than any 1ghz processor now... I don't get this need for power, battery life is so much more important, luckily for all of us there's a new lithium ion technology which will charge heaps faster than anything we have now, so maybe who knows, but USB power supplies will have to be upgraded from 500ma to around 2amps for it to work...

I love tech.. and I love getting a new phone.. but not every 3 months, my contracts are always 2 years and I always buy AT leasT one extra phone outright over the 2 years.. but I had an SGS2 and iPhone 4S.. then the iP5 and HTC thing is coming out in a few months.. Then quadcores? Growth is good but if its sustainable.

TBH I dont see that much difference between my iPhone 4S and a normal iPhone 4.. and they are optimised a little bit..

I think the key is, Software innovation and User experience superseeds hardware at some point.. and I think we are getting close to that point.

400Mhz on a X86 is not equivalent to 400Mhz on a ARM processor. The performance and power consumption don't even come close...
