Hope the Mi A3 fixes the most important things: Lack of 3.5mm jack & microsd slot as STANDARD.

is not needed to have a A3 until next Summer or next Christmas, really, i think is just so "massive" that people having a newer phone within 6 or 10 months and if the A series is knowing by having stock Android with really good support you should see if 2 years support is over for A1, then mi A2 will have theyr support over 6 or 7 months after so probably dont get a newer OS bump than A1 have since support for both are really close.
EXPLAINED:
Mi A1 came with Nougat and have Pie, 2 versions bump, and they will get the next for sure so N to Q.
Mi A2 came with Oreo and get update to Pie, 1 version bump since is too damn newer and will have Q and R for sure and maybe S or not.
Mi A3 maybe came with P and update to Q and R and S and "maybe" T.
CONCLUSION: If you launch a Stock Android phone every 6 or 8 months you only get 1 more update than last model of serie A, doesnt worth it, better to make this kind of phone every 1 and half years and improve them with new things than make the same thing forever.
