They should have done this after the huge backlash from users when they were forced into creating an account linked to their YouTube account. If they allowed users to join organically, it may have been a success.

F52, 31 Jan 2019we ll see about that.There are rumors pertaining to Fuchsia OS replacing Android but no definite proof or even a valid evidence to back it up so Android OS in not going away anytime soon. Most likely Google will just integrate Fuchsia in Android because Google is not that stupid.
Android is already at the stage where Google would only be loosing market share, popularity, revenue, and most of all years of R&D if they just suddenly decide to pull the plug for Android System.

Mani, 31 Jan 2019it will die. Android is getting better and better. It will die only in your dreams. Shutting down an app or service isn't same as killing entire operating system.

I created an account to join the LG Pad custom ROM group. I used it once or twice.
I don't understand why they would shut it down, it's popular with techies.
Maybe they should make it techs exclusive and pay contributors/posters some cash.
Anyway, why open source the code?

To each there own. But, I personally have always thought G+ was the best platform designed, especially since it integrates, and is connected with your corresponding YT channel. Such a shame facebook became so popular and not G+. Sometimes things come out that are better than what is most popular, and never becomes successful. G+ joins the long list of things that people are just too blind to gravitate to using. Ill be one of the few that will be sorry to see it go.
