18 February 2019
This may not be a part of the Snapdragon range but bear a more generic name. Still, it's related to the Snapdragon 410 and 425 chipsets.

The reality is that there still a lot of things produced on 90nm or bigger, so more chips per wafer is not the main reason.

It took 4 times of the area to produce the same chip in 28nm.
So, while the initial investment to build more advance manufacturing is expensive, it would produce the chip at cheaper price.

Furthermore, with the flagship moving to 7nm, and mid-range premium in 10nm, the 14nm fab is idling....

Qualcomm actually has a 2 series. For example, Snapdragon 210 is used on some $25 burner phones at Best Buy.

28nm should be dirty cheap by now, which is important on those entry level devices.

People asking 16-10nm at this price point must check his head.

But 400 series is not meant for playing games and hard work as you could afford with 600 series or above. Battery life depends on your device, his software optimisation, your usage and battery size. Saying all 400 series sucks is not fair and not really true. We all wish for betters SoC, but some people can't afford it and some don't need more than that. People want choices because we are all very very different mobile users. I hope you understand what Im trying to say.

Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Ever heard for that?

The Snapdragon 400 Series SoCs are terrible. Very disappointing performance and not really superb batter life. I also suspect that the cost isn't exactly the lowest in the marker. Anything less than the 600 series is not even worth looking at.

Snapdragon should instead concentrate on making better SoCs for smart watches.
