Also, since this is essentially the NVMe standard, it features a number of multitasking enhancements.

SmartPhones Fan, 25 Feb 2019Why outdated?? They will make same speeds They look like ... moreyeah because your device can only handle SD cards to a certain class. so it will only transfer at those speeds.

Yup and 1TB card will cost 450 bucks compared to a 4TB external portable hard drivve 2,5 inch for up to 120 bucks.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2019985 MB / s Read 100 MB/ s Write No thank you how lon... moreWe will never get those cards. Samsung has slowly buried them, esp. the slots for them in phones.

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2019When did we decide ~750==~1000?UFS 2.1 with two lanes can do 1,200MB/s max (600MB/s per lane), UFS 3.0 can do 2,900MB/s with two lanes. So, the OnePlus 6T (two-lane UFS 2.1) is 400MB/s short of hitting the theoretical speed limit.

Like I said, the limiting factor will be the speed of the flash chips used, not the bus.

Vasra, 25 Feb 2019We never even got UHS-II card slots in mobile phones. What... moreYeah, only up to UHS-1 I have seen up to now!

I'm not going to hold my breathe waiting on A) chips being available at sensible prices or B) Device makers getting around to making devices that can use them !!!

Storage devices like these have had DMA for decades, just like everything else. PIO is only a thing on 25 year old ATA devices and tiny SIP devices for micro electronics.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2019How fast is it compare to Internal storage?About as fast as internal storage is I had to guess or maybe a bit slower

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2019Why not make a hybrid solution that takes in either microSD... moreI didn't make it clear in the post (I've now updated it), but these new cards will be backwards compatible with any microSD slot - they'll just work at legacy speeds.

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2019How fast is it compare to Internal storage?A OnePlus 6T (two-lane UFS 2.1) did 735MB/s sequential read speed. UFS 3.0 is theoretically capable of much higher speeds, but the actual limit is how fast the flash chips are.

So, if microSD Express can get to their theoretical maximum, they will be comparable with the built-in storage of 2018 flagships.

Personally i hope this comes to mobile phones, since for the past 12 years all except one(nokia x6 16gb, but it was a trade of phones from a vivaz pro) phone of mine had it's memory expanded via some capacity microsd card. Even now i have multiple 32gb cards for portable memory and most of my older ones are used as backups or OS instalations, or boot tools.
