It was not surprising that Redmi 6 and 6A are equipped with SoC from MediaTek.

Smartphones with their SoC will only exceptionally receive updates to the new Android version.

Possibly what happens next after a few months:
“MIUI 11 will be the last update for the Redmi 6 and 6A”

Low-end devices always mean poor support. That is why I don't recommend phones from that price range to anyone.

Anonymous, 16 Apr 2019Where are the: "Never buying Xiaomi again!" comments? $100 ... moreI'm using a Redmi 5 Plus, and if Xiaomi never fixes the terrible audio recording bug on my phone, then I'll never buy Xiaomi phone again.

Oh, have I mentioned that my phone hasn't received any update for the last 4 months?

Anonymous, 16 Apr 2019The Nokia 3 would be much worsenah, Nokia 3 in my opinion a bit better if you want software support. in term of raw performance im sure Redmi 6/6a wins, but i'm pretty sure anyone who buy Redmi 6/6a or Nokia 3 aren't so demanding, they only use it as social media. so, in my opinion long-term software support is better than a little bit better performance

Where are the: "Never buying Xiaomi again!" comments? $100 device? No excuse, they promised it! If Motorola would do a thing like this, everyone would say they would never buy a Motorola device again.

dbjungle, 16 Apr 2019PSA: Numbered Android updates for MediaTek SoCs are not gu... moreOnly if the Treble implementation is properly done. If it isn't, the device will only be half-usable. That's also true for devices with non-standard hardware.

PSA: Numbered Android updates for MediaTek SoCs are not guaranteed.

This is a common outcome for MediaTek devices. I would recommend against buying them unless you're fine with having the same Android version or you're comfortable with running GSI roms.

LG and Sony's budget offerings are almost extinct and Samsung finally woke up with the M series. The only brand currently offering more updates throughout their entire lineup is Nokia and it is a matter of time they follow the rest. One cannot possibly expect to pay 100usd for a phone with good specs and flagship like update time-line. If you want updates then choose one of the main annual models like the main Mi, MIX or the Redmi note series and not some lite, S, SE, X, A, etc... modifications.

lol, 16 Apr 2019so much for being user-orientated companyIt was bound to happen. With the success they have, I wouldn't be surprised if they slowly stopped making new budget phones in the future.
The thing is this, though - one of the reasons for picking a Xiaomi up over another brand, other than specs, was specifically the long-term support. With that slowly going away, why should I choose Xiaomi over a more established and, at the end of the day, trusted brand, such as LG, Sony, or even Samsung?

I wonder when this myth about Mediatek socs will die. Nokia and LG released some devices on Mediatek chips and they updated them to newer Android versions so this soc isn't the problem here.

Well, Xiaomi has also suspended pie for Redmi S2 (Y2 outside china). It is not fault of mediatek SoC as many assume. The common thing between these 3 devices are that they are 32 bit android that is arm (arm32). Other devices are arm64. This might be the reason for suspending pie for these devices...

Xiaomi was built by budget phones before success..
After success Xiaomi don't care about budget phones..

I was expecting this piece of news, because these devices have a MediaTek SoC.
Redmi 6 received already MIUI 10, and it is expecting MIUI 11.

To be honest, I want this device as stable as possible; because it is with my family member, which are not as tech savvy as everyone here.

It's a lottery. Redmi 3 (& Pro) came with 5.1.1 and stayed on 5.1.1 till the end. Redmi 2 came and left the chat being on 4.4. Moving several tiers higher to Mi flagships, Mi 3 got the tasty major version upgrade (iirc), Mi 4 also did, Mi 5... Mi 6 and afterwards: I don't really remember, but they probably did. Oh. And Mi5S, if I'm not mistaken, also got updated. But Mi4S didn't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
