Some people like me prefer the S10e NOT just because it's the most affordable or it's physically smaller. Some of us prefer a FLATSCREEN flagship.

Android is already VERY successful, so it's unwise to mess with that. Secondly, it still requires a lot of time, money, resources, to bring that OS to phones... and even more if they're going to try to port Android API (ie Apps) to the OS.

It makes very little sense. It would be like Microsoft trying to port the final Windows Phone 8.2 as an Operating System for laptops, and selling it on the next MS Surface Pro.

Google selling cars to the USA Government in 2020, which runs this OS and uses Project Waymo as a much more sophisticated version of Tesla's driverless cars... that makes more sense. Though I highly doubt Google can properly achieve this by 2020, and Tesla's much further away (2030?), despite the lies my favourite CEO Elon Musk says.

Walter C. Dornez, 20 Apr 2019Couldnt find a single point where i could possibly disagree... moreAs far as I know, it's still just a project in Google's Labs. Right now Android is just way too big to replace or make drastic changes.

I would say that such a proprietary Operating System from Google will start out as something like a WearableOS, morph into a PhoneOS, then a TabletOS, TvOS, and even a DesktopOS but it won't be released.

          Why?
Google's using Android for Wearables, Budget Phones, Smartphones, Tablets, and TV. And they're using ChromeOS (with bits of Android baked in) for Tablets and Laptops.

Maybe eBooks is a possible target, but they're not quite sophisticated in terms of software. And the important part of that are actual books (and Google can't compete with B&N or Amazon here), so it's not going to happen.

I will tell you THREE possible places where a new Proprietary Operating System by Google (FushiaOS) can work:
1- Servers. Especially when dealing with Game Streaming and YouTube backends.
2- In Driverless Cars. Project Waymo is somewhat of a success, they're actually far ahead of Tesla in software. This would be a good place to avoid open-source software.
3- Smart-AI-Cameras; I'm talking like Google Glasses and public cameras that track objects, and faces, and log suspicious vision. It could even evolve into smart cameras inside homes for security, child/baby monitoring, and just Internet-of-Things.

Walter C. Dornez, 19 Apr 2019Agreed. What do you think is going to happen to the market ... moreIn terms of Samsung and Apple, they're going to stay the same, price wise, lineup and launch wise.

The next improvements to phones will be 5G connectivity, so they will ride that wave in the next 2 years. However, the lower latency and extra bandwidth of such connection is going to make 4K-HDR streaming mainstream, and also dabble with Game Streaming. This means displays are going to go up to 1800p for Samsung and Apple (or 4K-PenTile to be more accurate). Like Sony, it will use Dynamic Switching, so it will be 1080p-PenTile most of the time. And I suspect there's going to be another Aspect Ratio change from 19.5:9 to the cinema standard 21:9 (excluding rounded corners, and curved glass). The front-camera is going to go underneath the SAMOLED display, and the earpiece replaced by Vibrating Screen, to make a 95% Screen to Body ratio phone. Cameras are going to get better not as hardware, but as software. The phone will automatically use Quad cameras to take a photo, and use "AI" to mesh together a better photo using the Black-White camera, Ultra wide, Regular, and Optical Zoom camera. Performance is going to increase, but I can confidently say we can theoretically only go x4-folds faster on an IPC base until we hit a wall (and we need to try something else like laser/quantum computing). But I suspect it'll be smaller than that, and software will play a huge role. While before I was optimistic about cleverer software increasing the performance, I've noticed it's now a case of three steps forward and five steps back...thanks to bloat. So day to day use, new phones will get slower unless you use sophisticated Custom ROMs, however, they will decimate when it comes to benchmarks.

The Wild Card is Hauwei, will they get better and be better in the market place? To early to tell. Will OPPO/OnePlus transform itself into a full-fledged flagship to rival Google Pixels? Probable. Will Xiaomi make an official entrance to the Western Markets? Also possible, if no, they will maintain their huge market share, if yes, Xiaomi will overtake Huawei, OnePlus, and probably Samsung. The lean/cheap companies will start generating more profits than the expensive/bloated companies (except Apple). I can also see the likes of LG, SONY, Nokia vanishing into obscurity in the near future, leaving even less players in the market, which might cause a reaction by the European Union.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2019And apple still chasing android for more ram. RAM in phones is like exhausts in cars. Too few "exhausts" and you have performance issues. After a certain number of "exhausts" it's just not adding to the performance.
It's mostly a number to sell. Performance is what you are looking for here and especially benchmarks. iPhones and iPads are just more powerful devices. It's a fact. They don't need to put more RAM. They won the performance game.
