The top roll is a Sony Ericsson Windows Phone model with a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard. The device was code named "Julie" which was to feature a 4 inch display and a single-core 1GHz processor.

"Kumquat" is a god-awful name. It's a smartphone, not a bloodthirty orc. Name it appropriately.

Not every thing is true about sony. How many of their flagship model is running successfully. Xperia, Arc all these din't really make impression in the market. Where in Samsung HTC & Apple are way ahead of Sony. Time has come for Sony to do proper R&D & come up with real good phones which can beat the likes of Samsung Galaxy S11, Apple & HTC Sensation, XE n XL .

The relevance of the smartphone today justifies the comparison as a consumer product, plus if you actually read what I wrote instead of jumping to your misguided child like conclusion I said the comparison by quality and build only. Swedish design was in Ericsson's, and they went to bankruptcy :)

                  Dear Sony:
please keep the name "kumquat". Make the phone a little orange orb like a kumquat that's cut in half and watch the money roll in. You'll be the iMac of the Android world.

My Nokia excels in terms of PC suite; I can even do text messaging using my computer keyboard. Sony's PC sync is useless, except for battery charging and file transfer.

Bill, 17 Jan 2012So would you say Sony is the Audi of phones, HTC is Mercede... moreI'd Sony Ericsson is compatible to Volvo, and not just because they are both Swedish. They are packed with features, simple, yet stylish form, are indeed in the premium sector, but have a range that is accessible to a wide range of demographics and pocketbooks. Not always the most powerful, but are not trying to be king of the mountain either.

I take it back. That is so totally Swedish it's got Ikea and Liking horns written all over it!
Next stop: Valhalla OS! Ericsson will emerge after the buyout with new tech and release a new line up: Valkyrie, Thor, Loki and Odin, all running on the Ragnorok SoC.
                      Lol, oh to dream...

cjdelphi, 17 Jan 2012hardbuttons, are they all hard buttons on the phone? or sof... moreLol, Ericssons creak. My T68i used to creak, my z500a creaked along with my w810i, w580a and w760i. They all creaked. Even the bizarre luxo Xperia Pureness creaked. It's what Ericsson's do. Like arming the alarm on a VW sounds like it just farted, as an Ericsson built handset will creak. The only Ericsson branded phone that didn't creak was the Xperia X1, but HTC built that.

Don't write it off as poor quality. It's just the nature of the beast.
In my opinion, there is something very satisfying about a nice stiff hardware button that gives you that nice positive feedback you don't get from capacitive buttons, even if the heretics are as tuned as Nokia's.

hardbuttons, are they all hard buttons on the phone? or soft like the galaxy (not the middle button)..

I don't like having to press hard when the other 2 buttons do stuff the second you gently press on it... maybe i'm lazy but the feel of the experia i've used the hard buttons at the bottom felt so plastic, creeking noises as you press, if that issue does not exist on their new flagships i'll take another look :)

Another up and coming name which tends to be overlooked and underrated is Asus, which make stunning premium hardware second to none, on par with Apple. If Asus were a car, they'd probably be Maserati or Range Rover, Blackberry is a mixture of the Porsche Panamera with the usability of a VW Phaeton which no one seems to like, both brilliant interior builds but dated designs (in the case of the Phaeton). Sony has made a good impression with thier first Sony-only Android phones and are clearly the hip and reborn youth brand of Android, similar to modern Audi cars which cater to young professionals.
