Google prepares Fast Share, the replacement of Android Beam

01 July 2019
It's similar to the offline sharing functionality of Google's Files app. It works over Wi-Fi and shows devices based on proximity.

I don't care about these. We need to be able to clone our phones to new phones by a simple USB to USB cable to avoid snooping (after verification, and with lock downs on various files and app data setup by the user for extra security). All app data and files with the apps themselves being reinstalled, or installed from the network, but taking the data, and any unknown sources apps being isolated shut down until each approved by the user (to catch hacker apps) or and reinstalled from off site. Things have been far to relaxed in security for too long.

I'm not tech savy so I need to ask, when it says it doesn't require internet but it uses Wi-Fi to share, does that mean that the 2 devices will use the Wi-Fi modem in the phone to transfer information in and out?

Dr. Chillo, 02 Jul 2019Why the heck wants google my location to let me send some p... moreThe less you know, the more you panic.

Android apps need location permissions to use Bluetooth because it can be used to know your location. Imagine using a malicious app that scans Bluetooth and sees available devices. The location of some of these devices is known so your location can be determined even without GPS or cell triangulation.

Why the heck wants google my location to let me send some pictures to my homies!?????
I feel really bad about this spying feature.
AirDrop needs only wireless and Bluetooth, so why not like Apple just use wireless and Bluetooth!????
Why google tries to gather all data from our phones and why no. one cares?

Third party apps for sharing files have existed on playstore since ages.
Apple is the worst when it comes to sharing data with other devices.

Anonymous, 01 Jul 2019try Shareit instead. The only thing I have to say about ShareIt is they can suck it. ShareIt was my primary app for sharing other apps (mostly games) after Huawei removed that functionality updating from Android 5 to 6. Nowadays it's like a malware app, you install it then run it and get bombarded by ads and a bunch of unnecessary bullshit like images, videos, etc. I want an app to share files with, not another social media app. Replaced it with MiDrop and haven't missed it one bit. No ads, same functionality and everything.

It works, I mean they say they are connected to each other, but I couldn't transfer any files. On my P8 Lite the option shows up but It's not able to find my Mi A1, while on my A1 the Wi-Fi Direct option doesn't show up at all. Only the other stuff like Messenger, FB, Files app, MiDrop, etc.

I remember using Wi-Fi Direct to send files quickly to other people and it only required connecting them to each other. I also remember sometimes it didn't want to work properly, I don't remember what the problems were though, it's been a long time since I last used it.
