This is a prime example of the Fragmentation of the Android Platform. Although I'm an advocate until the end of days, this sort of problem needs fixed, fast. I get tired of hearing consumers with every different manufacturer of Android Handsets and Carriers, always exclaiming of how they're waiting, for example, an update to Gingerbread 2.3.7, when ICS has been released and is being rolled out to the high-end Handsets. Then, we hear news of Android 5 slated to be announced later this year. I'd bet my life savings that by that time, most users will still be waiting for an update on their Handset. Google needs to take control away from the Manufacturers and Carriers, and start pushing the update to all (Hardware permitting of course). Users could even have an option to opt in to a "Pure Google Experience" for their handset, break the ties, stop relying on the Manufacturer and Carrier for the updates we are eligible for.
