Even though it was first spotted in India,BB is quite expensive here. It costs around around 148 Eur for the 8520 and then goes on increasing model wise.The Bold 9900 comes for around 500 Eur (all unlocked and not inclusive of data plans). The data plans are also too high,so no,to the first person who commented,we people don't prefer BB at all.

It's an entry smartphone designed for countries where most people have dramatically lower disposable income than the various developed countries.
India's GDP per capita is 1500 USD. Even if you believe that the average middle-class citizen in India is several times wealthier than that income, no responsible person will fling 1/10 of their income on an iPhone (they need to eat, have a place to stay, and wear clothes). For middle-class in developing countries, they require mobile access for their work, but they don't necessary want to break the bank by recklessly consuming data or purchasing a high end phone.
This budget BB, which has core smartphone capabilities and low data consumption, is useful for this segment of demographics. Bashing RIM for releasing a budget device is akin to bashing Nokia/Samsung for releasing feature phones, although all 3 does release high end flagships.
People should treat this BB as either a really low end smartphone or a really full-featured feature phone. Either way, budget-conscious.

BB is hell bent on releasing relics!!...Even the Indians now prefer some of the hottest smartphones as there first smartphone maybe a budget handset but definately not another cloned BB from yesteryears.
It appears that in the mobile evolution BB has mutant genes that simpy refuse to evolve!
They have become a joke with these antics. I believe one day or may be even now there really are more people on the BB hate brigade than Apple or Sammy ...HTC...etc..& rightly so!
It seems that they are so hopelessly BOLD that they are releasing phones around the same CURVE !! Pathetic to sum it up.

As usual, BB forgot to finance their Research & Develompent department.
BlackBerry used to be innovative in the time PalmOS devices were king of the hill (I loved the first Pearl, who wouldn't?), right now they just manage to trick some nostalgic customers into buying their phones.
Time to plug the hole in your sinking ship BB! Apply your philosophy to NEW design, let those Android apps in on your device "Playbook way" and you're good to go :)

This is NOT smartphone.
This is a smart-RENTAL-phone.
In which you must pay monthly fee to RIM, or the phone will be be dumb phone.
Unlike.... Android, symbian, and others that the phone continue to be smart even though not paying monthly fee and be able to connect freely to wifi.

I think RIM better say that they want to be out of handphone business, fired all the people, let a couple of lawyer of IP licensing, and return all the money to the investor, so no one $$$ got wasted.
