Xperia Play.... moreI don't have either brand, but I will comment on the assumption that seems to be made that more processor, more memory etc somehow makes the device better.
As anyone who has had numerous Microsoft software powered PC's over the years will tell you a modern PC has a processor several thousand times 'more powerful' (my first PC had a 16bit 286 running at 6mhz) with several hundred times more memory (that PC had 512k (YES K) bytes (for the whole OS, all the apps etc.... how do these modern guys get away with claiming their multi megabyte apps are 'embedded'???) and a collosal (it was in those days) 32 MByte (yes M not G) hard drive. Yet, if I want to edit a word document it is still FASTER to get that machine out, power it up, load DOS, load win, then load word than to try the same with my modern laptop.
More processor, more memory, more disk does NOT make a more usable machine. As someone once said - not what you've got but how you use it.

Guys, Whether u like it or not need to admit that S2 is the best smartphone till now for its powerhouse performance and no phone matches it. I am not a samsung guy being a user of HTC models for long i happened to use S2 and it was amazing in terms of performance and i am sure the panel members in GSMA are not fools to award it.

I think you should wait for your S3 to save the day! But im not so sure about it either. Samsung, go back to your TV-s! At least that is what you do best!

I had many Sony phones before, and they still top Samsung with refreshing design and interface sometimes. Samsung are leaping ahead with their screen technology.
Just can't see myself going back to screens of lesser vibrancy and mediocre contrast ability.
Sony will be back.....
Apple are on there way out (along with Blackberry)...
Nokia are merely drifting at sea with a hole and no bucket.

Samsung winning the best smartphone and manufacturer categories aren't really a surprise. Samsung has been making the best out there, even their TVs. And what's great about the company is they don't overcharge. The prices are reasonable enough.

This thread is amusing, really. "My phone and brand of choice won the award then is the best! I should show the light to all the idiots who doesn't know the truth" and on the other hand we have this "My phone didn't won, nor my brand of choice, so I must bash at people who are happy because their phone/brand did won.".
This kind of awards are useless. Why? Simply, it's a matter of taste and necessity, for example my 61 years old mother thinks that her VERY OLD, monochromatic screen, no touch screen, no apps, Nokia 1100 is the best cell phone in the world. Why? Because it does what she wants, which is texting and making calls.
So just like my mother the best smart phone is the one that it does what YOU need. Who cares about awards? Did you buy your phone thinking that it would win awards, or because you thought it was the best for you? If your phone/brand won, cool be happy! But don't think that just because that is the best for everyone. If your lose, well, who cares? You think is good for so, who cares what other people may think.

That was very amusing. The Samsung galaxy s2 is better than all those phones in every single facet, from CPU GPU to memory Screen tech etc...in every single possible way the Sony ericsson's are inferior, thats why the Sony's don't get a mention....Enjoy your inferior phones. :)

Oh yeah, definitely is what I expected. Benchmark tests and reviews will tell you why it is the best smartphone. I don't think Sony Ericsson's smartphones come close enough. I would say Apple, HTC and Motorola are the real contenders at the moment. BTW, Nokia still make good phones.
