Whackcar, 06 Nov 2019Avoid buying another Pixel until Google releases a half-dec... moreI'm using a Pixel 2 and soon my day will come when my phone will stop getting updates. But perhaps I will update to a pixel 5 or 6 by then. I like pixel phones...if at all I switch, I will certainly not buy a 1plus, their after sales service is pathetic.

This just makes me mad. Three years of updates is ridiculous. I am not an Apple fan, I've always had Nexus and Pixel phones, but Apple far outdoes Google with their five years of updates. My laptop is ten years old and it still gets updates.

I just have no need to get a new phone. The original Pixel works fine. Limiting it to three years of updates is just planned obsolescence pure and simple.

YUKI93, 06 Nov 2019That has aways been Android sales format. The manufacturer ... moreI would agree with your point for other manufacturers but not for google phones. It's been 3 years i've had OG Pixel XL and the battery life is still great (agreed it's meh for the smaller Pixel), performance is still smooth even with latest 10 update, also i don't feel the need to upgrade due to the camera since it still take great photos. Obviously newer models have improvement in terms of image quality but they are not so big as to entice me to spend what they are asking for.

Agreed other manufacturers have come up with decent mid-range performers but it's disappointing when it comes to updates. I don't know if it's only me but i get excited to receive the latest android update on the same day. Hopefully, 4a will come and with it all the goodness of 3a.

You say you don't like curved screens, well then go for Oneplus 7T. It has a flat screen & the overall specs, battery life & software is better than Pixel 4 XL.

Being an OG Pixel XL owner, I was so looking forward to the Pixel 4xl, however it's initial reception was not so positive. I'm not fond of curved screens, but I think Oneplus maybe the way forward to be honest. What do you guys suggest (I'm planning on upgrading this December since now I am only getting 4-5 hours of screen on time)?

The Pixel 4 duo has not launched in my country so looking forward to upgrade to the next Galaxy S or OnePlus Pro (dunno how many variants the 2 will have combined)

Anyways the Pixel 4 duo has generally received unfavorable reviews even though the reviewers have stopped short of being harsh except maybe Zacks from JerryRigEverything.

The manufacturer expects you to change phone every year for a new feature either hardware or software. Apple do still update their phone every year, but the difference was not that big that you feel the need to change it. Only starting this year where Apple introduced ultra wide camera, and I bet that there won't be any significant changes next year.

To be honest, the OG Pixels were the best Pixels overall. They had the least compromises. Specs matched those of it's competitors (which hasn't been the case ever since). It had a 3.5mm jack (which is still important to some people). It's camera still performs well & has received new features like Night-Sight. It has received 3 OS updates. It has free unlimited storage on Google Photos (without compression).

So yeah, I'd say it was Google's least compromising phone.

OG pixel owner hier. I changed mine due battery problems. Got a new pixel 2 xl for really good price. Improved battery, top camera, got one with a decent screen and fast and up to date software for a year or two, can't complain.

I want something quite compact with a good camera and clean android. Really not sure, maybe a used Pixel 2 or a Xiaomi A3. Doesn't seem like upgrades.

                                        Maybe a Pixel 3a.
