Are you sure about e-ink? I haven't found an explicit note on the Fossil. Website about E-ink in this model. E-ink is a special case of electronic paper – a product line by E Ink Corporation. As far as I know, they tend to have very poor refresh rates 800 ms was the best time I have seen) and they tend to flicker when refreshing. This would mean a poor experience for quickly-redrawn data. On watches, there are some typical cases of such data, e.g., seconds and stopwatch. I would be a bit surprised by usage of actual E-ink, as there are similar low-power technologies for electronic paper that seem to be more suitable for such cases – much higher refresh rates, no flickering on update. There are some watch vendors who use it – Garmin, Huami (Amazfit watches) and historically also Pebble.

If they actually use E Ink, I wonder what is the reason.

With solar charging on the chapter ring, high-grade lume material on the hands and markers, and 100 ATM water resistance and it'd be perfect!

Real physical dials, e-ink and still manages to looks nice? This has to be the only smartwatch I'd wear.
