Kuo: Apple Watch Series 6 to offer improved water resistance and better performance

12 November 2019
The Apple-designed S6 chip will offer a substantial performance boost according to Kuo.

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2019Apparently these are Tempest based, not A55. Ah, you're right, thanks.
They're quite secretive when it comes to their embedded chipsets. I figured the leap from S3 to S4 came when they moved from 32bit to 64bit. I didn't realize they made that shift on S3 from S2. Both S2 and S1 were disappointing, just like all the QSD 400 or Snapdragon Wear SoC's.

Based on what we know, the Apple Watch 4/5 (Apple S4/S5) is more advanced than the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 (Exynos 9110). And if they use the new cores from the A13, the "Thunder", it will definitely be cutting-edge.

Kangal, 12 Nov 2019Hopefully, we do see better performance. The S5 chip is id... moreApparently these are Tempest based, not A55.

I believe the most challenge now is the battery life time
All other Brands now provides battery life time more than 5 Days
If apple succeed to provide watch with 1 week battery life time it will make huge impact in the smart watch market.

Nebula, 12 Nov 2019... And they didn't make these features available in series... moreMaybe it's not all ready for market?

Hopefully, we do see better performance.
The S5 chip is identical (maybe slight refresh) of the Apple S4 chipset. And whilst these are Custom SoC's, I think they're 7nm iterations based on the Cortex A55 and PowerVR GPU. Now that we saw Apple's own microarchitecture in the A13-Bionic SoC, it makes more sense for them to use a dual or quad core implementation of their out-of-order execution small cores. The 5nm Thunder Cores should provide enough performance to rival a full-blown phone chipset from the likes of the QSD 439 to the QSD 670.

Not sure how it's going to offer better water resistance. The Apple Watch 5 is already very advanced for ingress protection, it's rated for 5ATM. Which is actual industry grade for regular watches, allowing owners to use in chlorinated pools, deep diving, salty beaches, sandy creeks, and even high-moisture environments like shower jets or pressure varying environments like cockpits. And that's a difficult rating to acquire for a device with a lot of electronics. A move towards 10ATM would be welcomed, but I don't think its going to do anything new besides deep-sea diving.

The one area Apple neglects, and I keep hoping they would focus on is design. I'd love to see an Apple Watch 6, that's a little thinner (9mm), gets rid of the side button, keeps the digital crown. Though most importantly, they ditch the rhombus (?) shape and instead go for a full-circle display like the LG Urbane, Huawei Watch 1, and Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. Looks so much nicer and authentic like a watch, plus heaps of watch faces to choose from!!!

Nebula, 12 Nov 2019... And they didn't make these features available in series... moreBecause you're going to buy the new Apple Watch Series 6 when it comes out and you're going to love it.

abigfanoftechs: Apple Watch series 7 to offer improved battery size & better attraction to the opposite sex.

No kidding. And here I thought technology gets worse every year.

Nebula, 12 Nov 2019... And they didn't make these features available in series... morebecause companies are not going to put all the new tech in one shot. it's common sense.

... And they didn't make these features available in series 5 because?
