The weird elongated Project GEM phone won't get to become a shipping product.

I don't understand why people are happy becouse a company disapears! Every bit of competition is good.

This article is written in such a negative way, but truth is that Essential Phone served it's customers way more than that average phone. The phone received 3 Android updates when most receive 2 (It runs on latest Android 10, in case you didn't realize). The phone's build materials put even Apple and Samsung to shame. It's specs were perfectly reasonable for it's time, and the phone still performs well to this day. The camera performs rather well with gcam. Really, this phone deserves some love.

The shutting down of this company are deemed as an essential move. Well done.

Not so sad of seeing a phone that has flagship price but with bad camera and impossible repairability which forced its display to be destroyed first.

Turns out they weren't very Essential after all huh

That's just sad. They were first with the notch design

Nokia gone, HTC gone, Blackberry gone and now Essential. All we have are iPhone and Samsung. What a shame.

Andy Rubin purged his Twitter account from any post since 2016. I think it's more than just that. Even the GEM pics he shared are gone.

                    Who? Didn't notice.

I was really looking forward to the final product of Project GEM. It was a product no one asked for but it was attractively unique in the currently stale smartphone world.

LOL, it’s already dead way back when they dropped the price without a successor.

Typical geek crowd pandering companies. Lure the geeks, rake in the money. Then go sellout and join the mainstream mass market of iphone wannabee meme devices.

Just 5 days ago there was a whole article about the Essential PH-2, now this.

Well this came out of nowhere.
