Look,if you want to talk about brand/os hating, maybe you should explain to your nokia die hardfans "friends".

Everytime...EVERYTIME any android-samsung related topic appears,Nokia fanboys are there to make a mess, giving boring facts, sheep what people say etc.

Mobilefreak, 11 May 2012Why everybody is telling nonesense like "the OS is dry... moreUnfortunately, you've kind of contradicted yourself with this...

By Nokia giving a finite lifespan for Symbian and an end date... the time in between that (now and 2016 or whenever) is the period in which it dies... hence a dying OS...by definition...

    BUT

The real issue here is (and has been explored in other threads...)

In order for Nokia to survive, it has to convert non Nokia die-hards to buy their products... you have to agree people have moved away from Nokia in their hundreds of thousands... Why? Primarily because Nokia did not keep up with current technology, nor buy into rising operating systems.... and their handsets became quickly outdated...

This was primarily due to Symbian not giving consumers (rightly or wrongly) what they wanted... a slicker, simpler interface with an abundance of apps to get more out of their handsets..

So who in their right mind is going to jump from iOS or Android or even Winmo7 to a platform that is ending in a few years, with little developer support, the fewest apps and, bearing in mind that these people will have already invested money in Android / iOS apps... they will lose everything and for what? A phone that takes fantastic pictures but in every other facet is clearly way behind the competition (why on earth they didn't give this phone a decent screen resolution is anyone's guess...)

Look at the N8... great looking, fantastic camera, but it bombed because of the OS... and unfortunately this is destined to do the same...

    BUT

2013 should be much better for them!! :)

Nokia planned to not release the Nokia 808 in North America, but due to public demand now they will. Geez people... use your brains or just search the web and read the forums about North Americans reacting to the previous news that the model will not be released there.

The last paragraph was unneccessary. Windows phone are doing great in America. May be Nokia want to give the taste of this beautiful, innovative device to americans.

Why everybody is telling nonesense like "the OS is drying out soon" ??? ...Nokia just said, that 2016 their support will end...2016!!!

They are still 4 Years of developement and support for their symbian devices... I don't know how you think about it, but I change my device every 2 Years...so stop thinking of a "dying" OS, cause there is still a lot of time to be happy with the Nokia 808 Pureview.

I've the N8 for approximately 1,5 Yeas now and am happy with it. I soon will buy its successor 808 Pureview.

My girlfriend changes here phone every 6 month (!), she chooses the best Android phones available on the market, but after a while she gets to know the disatvantages and buggs of these phones (currently she uses the Galaxy SII)...my brother is really angry with his SII too, after ICS update, it even has a shorter battery life then before.

BTT: To me symbian is the perfect OS with the best features NOW...we will see what the future brings...but please: STOP bashing eachother only because of your prefered OS or device or something else...just choose for urselves and let others choose their prefered devices.

4inch plus ClearBlack Display Nokia with Android and PureView would put Nokia back on the Map...Forget Windows. It won't last long. Look at Samsung. What did they they do to get to the top...:)

The decision was made because of the demand in North America for nokia PureView.

WinMo vs Symbian? I rather choose Symbian. Why? Symbian plus Operamini plus Network tweaks equals to Unlimited Free Internet. If Nokia focused on developing Symbian OS instead of switching to a poor OS. Symbian OS could survive but as they have announced that Symbian will dry out soon the just killed the opportunity to stand on the competition. What a wrong move for Nokia. I love the hardware quality and the battery consumption by their phones. I love Symbian OS but now I hate Windows Phone.

i-ain't-rich, 11 May 2012peoples stop your negative craps, you are the reason Nokia ... moreto be fair to people... there's isn't any unjustified negativity on this thread yet (I'm sure that'll change soon!)

                          unfortunately people are stating facts...

                          a) Nokia themselves have said Symbian is dying - so support will dry up soon and it will be relegated to low-end handsets - and developers aren't going to be bothered with it

                          b) Pureview technology does appear to be a brilliant idea, and it will no doubt be put into the Lumia range next year, but no carrier is going to support a handset with such a poor app ecosystem / dated OS

                          c) the 808 will fail in the U.S. purely because people aren't going to put up $600+ and then spend money on a contract, when other handsets (including Lumia ones) are so highly subsidised ($99 for a Lumia)

                          it's sad but true...

but on the positive side - as long as Nokia can survive this year - 2013 with their new Lumia Pureview range - it should see a good turnaround (as long as carriers buy into it and subsidise the handsets - which currently they're saying Winmo just isn't good enough to be pushing to customers...)

it's sad but true... Nokia is right on the brink here...
I think Microsoft will end up buying the brand name, etc. and start from scratch... Nokia as you know and love now will no longer exist...

I love comments like "it should be android etc" it will never be android same as nokia as they already said that android for them is dead. Stupid mistake but its to late now to go back, nokia will die slow and painfull death, shame tho cuz i loved their phones (n95 8gb) well its time for others to fill in the gap. Bye bye nokia
