Weekly poll: LG Velvet is rugged and has a stylus, but does it have a future?

This is a proper Wacom stylus, not one of those simple capacitive ones. Still, the Snapdragon 765G chipset doesn't mesh with the price LG is asking.

Just better is every way you can think, just a better device. As an owner of both G6 & V30, the G6 went for sale after six months of use but the V30 remained even today. Actually I have two V30+.

    Launched in our country for $600, the price of V30+ fell quite steeply making them great buys. The recent one I got for my wife was for just $156 brand new.

It favoured well against the over-priced Google Pixel 2XL. But overall, it was troubled with a locked bootloader, and a price that wasn't too competitive. The V30 eventually got a price reduction (internationally) but it was 1.5 years after release, so it was well-aged at that point. The LG G6 got a price reduction (worldwide) about 0.5 years after release, which made it compare very favourably against phones in 2017. It was probably the best value of the year.

      Here's the logic:
      The OnePlus 5 was titled as a "flagship killer", was it not?
      And the LG G6 was a (slightly) better phone than the OnePlus 5.
      Therefore, the LG G6 was also a flagship killer, because of it's "killer price and features".

      It's true, the LG G6 was better than the OnePlus 5 in every way except:
      - software (OxygenOS vs LG UI + Camera Manual Control)
      - hardware (Scratch-resistant Anodised 7k-series Aluminium vs Tempered Glass Backplate)
      - chipset (New QSD 835 vs Old QSD 821)
      - charging (Oppo Dash Charge vs Qualcomm Quick Charge + Wireless Charging)
      - display (OLED deeper blacks, but G6 LCD was more accurate and brighter)

      PS: Remember the LG G6 was actually slightly cheaper than the OnePlus, and has much better customer support and mainstream accessory adoption.

          I have owned LG phones and tablets in the past. But I would never buy one again. No matter how good a phone they build or how cheap they sell it. LG and Sony are terrible at updating the software on their phones. Even the premium phones don't get updated.

            1) That IP rating does literally nothing. The manufacturer could put the seals in and not get the IP rating and cut the price of the phone by $30 while still having the same amount of water resistance.

            2) I went from my dual speaker'd OnePlus One to my single speaker'd LG V30, yet was I disappointed? No! There's hardly a difference.

            If you're gonna try to say the very few petty things that this has that $250 phones don't, why don't I do the opposite. Does this have a high refresh rate display? No. Does this have a 64MP camera? No. Does this have a pop up camera? No. Does this have a telephoto lens? No. The list goes on.

But, after 11yrs, it paid off. The previous "leaders" got left. I'm I'm an Apple disliker.

                      I love the idea of stylus compatibility with an external pen. However the curved screen is a deal breaker (other deal breakers: lack of headphone jack, fm-radio and hybrid dual sim... Such a pitty that all expensive phones these days have this stupid curved screen "feature"....

                            How do you guys know so much , the damn thing hasn't been launched yet. Since the G6 launched I have not seen a better looking LG than the Velvet and as for the G5 it has not has existed in my world and after the G6 I've turned my back on them for good. The G4 and the G6 are the most underated flagships ever...

                              It will not have much of a future at that price point. Good idea though but no cigar I'm sorry to say. Drop to below $600, then maybe.

                                The used a last gen soc, lower grade camera sensor, and nothing stood out. But called it a current flagship.
                                The v30 was a much better step up.
                                And at least both marked the end of poor battery life, bad screen burn, and bootloop issues for LG.

Apple are known for lagging behind. What I saw with the 11 was a company that nailed good cameras, finally. Great battery, finally. Screens have always been good. A processor that is worthy of praise, don't think anyone could argue this. Design, first iPhone design I've liked for 5yrs. Wireless charging, in. A charger that charges above 5w, box ticked. There is much I don't like about Apple. I hate the UI, that home screen is horrendous. I hate the iPhone user idea of their phones. If I misplaced my phone, I say, I lost my phone", Apple users always seem to say "I lost my iPhone"... It's a small thing, but they always use the word iPhone, where other phone users use the word "phone". Irritates me to hell.

                                      So it wasn't really a Early 2016 Flagship, nope it was a Mid 2017 Midrange. And it really did fill the position of "Flagship Killer" which OnePlus lost after their 3t phone.

                                      How dare Peter and GSMArena trick readers and customers into thinking it is "rugged". It is not. The MIL-spec, although nice to have, really doesn't mean anything. Don't believe me? Go research it !! I can only say that this phone has a glass curved front, a glass curved back, and a thin metal side profile. Both front face and backplate are glass. As they say, Glass is Glass and glass breaks. There's really no impact protection, so all that work they did and are marketing is bogus/wasted since this device requires a case to use for the everyday-man.

                                      A good design is a Durable design.
                                      That means not too thin. Not too heavy. And with the sideframe (Cushioned Titanium Alloy ?) which bludges-out slightly to be able to protect damage to the front glass face. And the rear being made from a material that can protect impact from its side such as, Scratch-Resistant Anodised Aluminium 7000-Series, or Aerospace-grade Polycarbonate, or Military-grade Ballistics Kevlar. Or at least make both the front display plastic, and the transparent backplate plastic so they don't crack, but have a (User Replaceable) Tempered Glass that goes over to protect from scratches.

                                        If people want to support LG back onto the road to smartphone succe$$, then they should stop debating & start BUYING! WOW! I should be teaching @ Harvard!!!
