Stranger, 07 Jun 2012I still cant understand why do people need a memory card sl... moresimple answer from me, i have 8gb music mp3 files, 6gb manga/comic books, 4gb music videos, 2gb videos about some tutorial, 2gb mr.bean series, about 1gb documents and ebooks, 1gb podcast, and i have not included hundred of pictures that im going to take and HD videos. this is one of many reason i never consider an iphone. and please you dont have to think like steve jobs, external storage is good for everybody.

These HTC dumbasses deserves what they get right now. They will even disappear or go bankrupt with in 5 years. Why? Just look at their purchase last year - $330 MILLION FOR BEAT AUDIO (Basically a 4 letter label)! LMAO!! Instead of buying Imaging Sensor Company, or Chip Design house (like Apple did with P.A. Semi which cost them $278 million which now designs all Apple SoC/Chips - eg Apple A5, A5X and future A6), they spent it on SHIT. They definitely deserves to go bankrupt.

There was a news report here in Taiwan on the local news channel about HTC and how its stock went from 1300 NT to under 400 NT now within the last year. If those knuckle heads over at HTC made the right products for consumers they would not be losing market share to other manufacturers and their stock shares would not be tanking to 1/3 of the value.
Their main problem was that their high end models were losing out to other products made by other manufacturers such as Samsung. The Galaxy S2,Galaxy Note and Galaxy S3 really ate into HTC's sales because they did everything better as their products had better specs. HTC's problem was that they focused too much on the lower end customers.

1) Micro SD cards are small, how would you c people carrying them. Lol
but seriously, i have always got 5-6 micro sd cards on me, in a credit card holder in my wallet, it takes 9 card, i keep install packs, dvd's, music, podcasts, pics, training vids. I’m carrying about 130GB of data on me, IT engineer.
2) transfer speed is very dependent on device and state of device. moving a 3GB file is about 20-50% quicker for me, i understand this is not the case for all devices. but being in support its often the case I’m working on a poo device so micro sd via USB is better for me.
3) not true at all, i have a wildfire s as a work phone, ginger update came through this week, had to relocate several apps to the micro Sd card to complete this upgrade. i understand YOU may not have experienced this issue but MANY have. maybe an open mind to the experiences of others.
4) this form of backup requires user interaction, and as anyone in IT will tell you, if your backup fails that’s the day you get problems you need to restore. Just sods law.
using my micro SD card back solution, it’s always backup up. 0 risk of losing anything. you may backup every day or twice a day but your restore is only as good as your LAST backup. if you forget, or you haven’t backup for a while there is the potential for loss. which is unacceptable to some client/users. micro SD solves this issue.
5) I’ve been running my current device for +4 years. with the quality of devises being released and current specs, we don’t need to upgrade yearly any more. i use sim only so i upgrade when i want. we'll start to c people holding on to devices for longer. most people have been stuck into a 2 year contract nowadays. think your being a little short sited on the future proofing side. i made the same mistake as you when building my Rambus PC....ouch.
6) slimmer phone, not the case. many devices without micro sd are thicker then with. and surely a 1 pence memory card really won’t make that much difference. All to do with the designer. removable battery> thickness i see that relationship but micro SD increasing the width....maybe but not by enough to bother anyone. at most an extra 1mm. iPhone no sd no removable battery. How thick...? (the phone not you)
benefits out way the cost in MY opinion. and if you spend some time reading and looking at the statistical evidence you'll c many people want sd on their phone.
at the end of the day, every one have different needs, and those needs change as we grow as people. one day you may feel the need for micro SD. so back to my original point,
Why not have one? use it or not. no cost to having it and not using it. big cost not to have it and need it.
why limit yourself. having sd on a phone would not put off hardly anyone from buying it. but a phone without micro SD would put off many people. so from a hardware manufactures perspective not having Micro SD limits your potential market, but having it wouldn't.

And of course, S3 has a newer Samsung image sensor&lens, which are confirmed.

Nothing wrong with the weight or thickness of new Samsung Galaxy S3. Had HTC made the new HTC One X with a user replaceable battery,expandable memory card and offered it in 32gb along with 64gb options as well then their sales numbers would match or beat those of Samsung's Galaxy S3 but their stinginess gave Samsung the edge in sales due to better specs over the HTC One X (LTE Versions) & HTC One XL version models.

1. I find it very useful to be able to move data between different devices by just taking out my memory card.
2. I move around with huge amounts for DATA and regularly have to move stuff off my existing 32GB card. When the 64gb cards become cheaper I will definitely buy one.
3. I am definitely not a fan of the cloud and I would imagine that one would have to use some of one's data allowance to access their own data on the cloud and one would also have to be in a wifi access area.
4. We are in a commercial world where one thing that good companies give their customers is choice.
5. If the lack of expandable memory slots makes phones slimmer. Why is it that HTC have not made a phone slimmer than the Galaxy SII.

Stranger, 07 Jun 2012I still cant understand why do people need a memory card sl... moreThe HTC One XL in Hong Kong and the HTC One X in the US along with Canada only come with 16GB of internal memory. No 32GB for those regions unless you buy the non 4G model. Even then all lack expandable memory card options and come with poor speakers along with poor battery life. The wifi is poor on these devices too if you wish to add that in as well. Wifi reception is good when you are near the router but step away a bit and you will see how quickly you lose connection. Much better wifi reception on my new iPad compared to my HTC One XL from Hong-Kong.
These days they want you to store stuff on cloud or their Dropbox so they are moving away from memory cards. I am against this as not everyone wants to place all their private information on some cloud or server.

2. The speed of transfer hardly differs and it doesnt make a big difference.
3. There is enough of memory for all upgrades which is system reserved.
4. YES! This is a very valid point, SD card can always be used as a backup. But this problem can be solved if you use an application for backup or if you regularly transfer your data on your laptop/PC to keep a back up of it.
5. If you talk about future proofing, I dont know anyone using a mobile phone for more than a year or two years at the max. And I think 32gb of storage would definitely run for a year or 2.
6. The reason for not having an SD Card is to make the phone much slimmer. Only an engineer will be having an indepth knowledge about this.
The only valid point I could see is the Point # 4 which is to have a backup. Besides that I cant see any good reasons to have an SD Card slot as the phone internal storage these days act as a mass storage mode itself.

reasons for it.
1) unlimited expansion. can have many sd cards with you. carry movies, large amounts of data.
2)Quicker transfer, generally its quicker to remove the card from the device and use a reader. if copying large data so much quicker than through the device or too the device
3) external memory means you can leave the internal memory free for upgrades ect. saves uninstalling apps to rom upgrade.
4) backup, if your device dies you still have your data to plug in your spare phone.
5) future profing, 16GB seems alot of storage, but i remember getting excited over getting a 32MB SD card for my camera 8-9 years ago. 32MB seemed good then, just as 16GB seems good now. files get larger as quality and functionality improve. memory cards remove any limit.
6) Why not have one? use it or not. no cost to having it and not using it. big cost not to have it and need it.

I still cant understand why do people need a memory card slot when they have an inbuilt memory of 16/32gb. The inbuilt memory itself reads as a flash drive. You can drag and drop the files after connecting to the desktop. So why do you need a memory card slot?
