I have used many different operating systems over the years. Windows has also gone through some very bad user interfaces such as Windows 8. I don't think Big Sur is close to being a Windows 8 failure, but it certainly has some design aspects that simply don't work. The broader ideal was to make MacOS more iPad OS like to solidify the Apple OS ecosystem. This probably satisfies the users who use both IOS devices and Mac's closely.
Personally I saw nothing wrong with the overall design of MacOS, and Apple could have done a more incremental design change and it would have been better accepted.

Not planning to upgrade soon due to bad graphics performance. However I feel like they are making decent progress. I like the approaches of simplifying notifications and unifying icons across OS's. Maybe in 2030 I will be able to enjoy a decent laptop.

Windows are better for Windows users,
Macs are better for Macs users, &
Linux are better for those in need too.

What suit your needs, suit the best.
Not everyone have the same needs you know?
And even sometimes our own different preferences works for our different selves.

Android Master, 25 Jun 2020You have used Windows? Are you sure? A few posts back you ... moreIs that untouchable as in Edge or Cortana? Nice way to make an argument that something is superior, but then admit some of the key components of the Microsoft experience are simply unbearable.

Furthermore, everyone has different needs that may be meet using different tools. Windows does have more tools from 3rd-parties. However, quantity is not quality, and it massively sucks in some use-cases. If you are a audio professional you will run away from Windows -- the way the drivers and kernel scheduler work allow for all sorts of artifacts in what should have been a pristine performance by a professional. That's why those guys only use macOS or a Linux system, peempt-RT.

Once you escape the blue-collar "heavy duty" mantra, you'll quickly realize that Windows has plenty of deficiencies that were never addressed (such as slow AF IO) or a kernel scheduler that just can't get it right for many core processors such as EPIC/Threadripper, which is causing top professional to jump to Linux -- not Windows. Mind you, when you are building your own tools, it really doesn't matter what is the existing ecosystem. All that matters is getting the better base, and that certainly isn't Windows (as popular as it may be).

LilPhone, 25 Jun 2020Every statement you made is a fact that is somewhat false. ... moreYou have used Windows? Are you sure?
A few posts back you were comparing Cortana and Edge browser when no one in their right minds use these things.
You fail to account that Windows heavily relies on its vast ecosystem of 3rd party x86 based apps.
This ecosystem of softwares and services is untouchable in the PC World.
MacOS can't compete with that in a 100 years.

You clearly don't have a clue about functionality provided by these 3rd party softwares coz you never used one.
            Keep using inferior Toy OS.

Only people who buy MacOS in 2020 are ppl who want to show off Apple logo.
Plenty of ppl like that who think, because it's expensive, it must be good.
Tech community unanimously laugh at the capabilities of Windows when compared to functionally challenged MacOS.

Apple lost the PC war long back.
All that is left are delusional iGadget users who simply can't digest reality and want to justify their expensive purchase.

Apple tapped out to Windows long back.

I feel bad for you man, always endorsing an inferior operating system whether it is MacOS or iOS.There is a reason why Windows is the first choice of OS on PC platform not MacOS.
The reason is coz it is simply the BEST.
Clearly you have zero experience using the BEST.

Which massively increases their market share. But this means nothing to the consumers as they don't need to rely on specific Windows software.
Did you know that most servers in the world run on Linux? In this regard, we should all then start using Linux because it's the OS of choice for servers? Even though it's lacking in features and consistency and any GUI you choose is still massively unpolished and most of the times just ridden with bugs. Yeah.

Once you figure out the purpose of a touchbar, you'll quickly find uses for the touchscreen. In fact, I'd rather have a full keyboard with actual keys paired with a touchscreen (for the odd uses of the touchbar), than be missing the function keys and rely solely on a pre-touchscreen stopgap solution like the touchbar (that does have its own uses, but is surpassed by a touchscreen and direct interaction).

In sum, I could care less for touch, but I do value a good keyboard. I just can't have a good keyboard experience until the physical function keys return (for the better configured machines). If you understand this, then jump on the touchscreen train, as that is the only feasible way of getting back the full keyboard. Meanwhile, that future is already here thanks to the Thinkpads.
