My AirPods Pro have firmware 2D27. In not sure if it came with this firmware version or got updates recently. I bought them recently (couple of week back).

This switching only happens between iPhone and Apple Watch. It doesn't automatically switch between mac, ipad and iphone. Also I am on iOS/iPadOS 14 and Big Sur. Sigh! I guess this isn't really the update we were waiting for.
Also, switching can sometimes be really slow between watch and iphone

Features are not patented; it's a make or break thing that could make a product great enough that all should have it. Yeah, give props to Apple for implementing good Android features and add a touch of their own. Besides, Android's copying Apple in a same manner as Apple implementing Android's features.

And I forgot to share that whenever something is playing on my Apple Watch (6.26) then I play a video from YouTube or Netflix or play music, the audio is automatically routed to my iPhone (13.5.1) again. :)
Glad to confirm that no updates are needed for iPhone and Apple Watch for now but the feature works correctly.

I haven't had the first update for my Airpods yet and now they're rolling out the 2nd update? 🖕 You Apple.
At least let us manually update the firmwares. This is ridiculous.

Copy cat or not apple deserves respect for features like this. Im constantly switching betwen devices, phone, tablet and a tv and repairing the headphpnes is a nightmare. They steal festures from android but also invent something nobody has thought about.

you sit there waiting like a dump for 4 hours and nothing happens. Maybe in the future, Apple will say the new ios18 (you can check the software update of airpods in the setting) and in iOS 22 they will say (Now there is an app for your airpods). Ironically when Steve Jobs calls all companies copycat, Apple is the biggest copycats of all time. Notifications and pull down menu were invented by Nokia and then Android and Apple copied them and the list goes on for all the things Apple copied from Android and Samsung like Samsung initially copied from Apple during Galaxy S1 but then they innovtaed.

My AirPods Pro's firmware version is now 2D27.
What I noticed is that when I play something on my iPhone (iOS 3.5.1) then play Music from my Apple Watch (watchOS 6.2.6), it automatically switches the audio of my AirPods Pro from my iPhone to my Apple Watch.
