Then i move a bit, thinking it was processing the image, not capturing more frames to gather more data. It truns out the image blurred because of it. So that shutter lag was so badd. Hope they refine the processing. But Credit for Huawei, most competitors need a night mode to achieve the photo quality of Huawei's Auto mode. Which is 3 - 10 seconds vs less than 1 seconds, so you don't need to be a robot to steady your hand for so long. Just hope the shutter speed and lag isn't so bad. When i pressed the shutter, sometimes the image is slow because of the processing. Hope this gets fixwd.

Figure out a way to have less DOF with those large sensors. - The only way is to have smaller aperture or photo-stacking. DOF is part of lens physics. And at ultrawide group shot, I don't think it will have much effect, focus should be pretty much from 2m to infinity.

Tone down their shutter lag at some times (When the screen says ' Sharpening, Please steady your device.' the shutter lag is so slow. - Are you talking about shutter lag? or shutter/processing lag? 2 very different things, shutter lag meant the time between pressing the button and the camera starting to record the photo, regardless of whether it is 1/1000s or 10s. If the camera is asking you to hold still and is sharping, that means it is in the midst of recording, definitely not shutter lag by that time.

        Left Samsung to try something new. Also found that they weren't quite playing ball when it came to upgrades. Only once in the 6 years I enjoyed it,. But never looked back when opting for a Xiaomi device. STILL loving it but should've gone for more RAM which I regretted. But at 64 GB I should be okay for the next couple of years UNLESS they're going to bump up the price, which I doubt they'll do. Love my Redmi S2 and hooked on this brand for the foreseeable future. BTW, tried a Huawei but ended up giving it to my gf. Not as good

          Not sure what happened, but huawei pro models should be better than any phone in superwide and tele low light shooting.
          As for not too wide fov, I don't really mind since for me is also important per pixel detail and edge sharpness. Grass and mainly pattern on windows are best examples about its processing.

            Xiaomi hasn't fixed its yellow tint and color crushing on its existing 108mp sets, what is the purpose of more sets? The lack of support is the main reason I am not likely to buy another Xiaomi phone.

                [deleted post]Samsung uses 1/2.6" for Ultra Wide at 13mm.
                Sony uses 1/2.6" for Ultra Wide at 11.5mm (no correction)/16mm (correction).

                Huawei has 1/1.5" for Ultra Wide. It is harder to apply wider lenses at the design point of view.
                Module would have different size. Lenses need to be redesigned, consider optical cons and pros etc ....

                  For example, two cameras use 1/2.6" sensors with lenses 26mm.
                  Smartphone A has f1.6 and Smartphone B uses f2.0.

                  Photo taken by B will have more of the frame in focus also sharper texture. Pretty easy to see the difference when subject is less than 40cm away.

I remember a day where i was forced to use another phone's Ultrawide at dark (Note 10 Plus) because the Mate can't fit the whole group and the place was tight. The image was dark even with Night Mode, so we brighten it in post, the results are horrible. But we took an ultrawide pic with the Mate and it was usable but it cut off some people and the corners, which was a shame. Hope the Mate 40 series will bring am wider ultrawide than Huawei's previous devices.
                      But i like Huawei for their approach.
                      Their Nightime quality is so good you don't need to use night mode for all scenarios (except for tele lens), just shoot auto and it will handle most scenarios at an usable result. I appreciate phones that can output an usable output rather than great at some, but very bad at some.

                      Hope Huawei can :
                      1. Make the ultrawide wider
                      2. Tune their colour science (especially for contrasty, vibrant colours and Night time)
                      3. Improve quality at 3 - 4.9 x zoom
                      4. Figure out a way to have less DOF with those large sensors
                      5. Tone down their shutter lag at some times (When the screen says ' Sharpening, Please steady your device.' the shutter lag is so slow.

                      That's my only complain, despite it, it is my favourite camera phone alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus

                        Omg, not another gimmicky Super High Resolution Sensors again. Sure, it is good, but for nighttime is bad. Pixel size must be over 1 micron for consistent good photos/videos through day and night. Even with Pixel binning, 0.8 microns are just too much noise and dark. If u wanna use a high resolution sensor, make sure it is over 1 micron per pixel size to get good night and day photos/videos. I like Huawei's approach better in terms of hardware, they aren't trying to push numbers hard.

                        Huawei's nighttime quality is so far ahead of every other phones that you don't need night mode, just the auto mode is enough. Why? Because their sensor is huge, yet doesn't push for high, Gimmicky numbers like 50 MP++, For me the default resolution of photos is between 8-16 MP, while videos max on 4k60fps.

                        I would always take a low res image that is usable and that i can instantly share rather than an image that is super sharp but noisy and not usable.

                        Just go for the IMX 600y / IMX 700y sensor for your cameras, theses sensors don't need night mode to get great results at any conditions (Only Huawei does it now).

                        The best camera phone is the Huawei P40 Pro
                        Only downsides are :
                        1. Ultrawide not as wide
                        2. 4k60fps video lacking quality
                        3. Inconsistent WB, and colours
                        4. Strong DOF (just use the ultrawide and you'll be fine).
                        5. Average quality output at 3 - 4.9x zoom

                        With all the downsides aside, I would rather trust cameras that can provide at least a usable output in any conditions rather than great at some, but lacking in some.

                        Hope MP wars aren't continuing to 200 MP, 50 MP Quad Bayer is enough.

                          The best output for me is superwide from P40pro/+.. super sharp 10mp binned, then mate 30 non-pro 10mp from main camera. For colors it's xperia then.
                          If xiaomi can bring better colors, contrast and less of processing that causes smoothing and pink color, it will be great.
                          Optics may play also role in it, that's why huawei mate 40 line may surprise as it's rumored to have better one. Sony got also better lens, it's important.

                              It's time for CC10. One of them could be Mi A4.

                              Hopefully this time around Xiaomi won't repeat Mi A3 disaster.

                              I understand that that their priority is MIUI, but Android One crowd not exactly overlaps with MIUI crowd. Releasing successfull Android One phones they are gaining new customers, they are not cannibalizing MIUI device sales.

                              Instead to releasing lucklaster overpriced Mi A3 like device, they should release Android One devices at every price bracket.

                              For example Poco F2 Pro, Mi Note 10 Lite and Redmi 10X would have excellent candidates IMO.

                                      Redmi Note 10 and Mi Note 11 ...

                                        Ho hum. Probably going to be just another mediocre phone from Xiaomi.
                                        Instead of keep making overlapping models with only small difference, xiaomi better focus on its software. MIUI is embarrassing considering its age. With smartphone maturing, xiaomi needs to put better focus on the software.
