This should be the way forwards. Miui apps, Google apps, Huawei app store, etc should be the choice of the user..

Anonymous, 07 Aug 2020like the chinese did with google youtube fb uber twtter wik... morethey are china, but a country that claiming himself leader of free world most do far better

"It also promises that Indians will have 100% control over their data, including exactly what all is being uploaded"...

Aha... We can only wish. But these are modern times, where we can expect anything but the above statement.

This is how MIUI should've come by default. There's a reason why such steps (banning) should be taken, else they'll never consider doing such things.

India goes where is not decided by you. Even US is following India in banning chinese apps. Many people in India won't spend money on Apple or other high end not because they cannot afford but because they don't like to pay premium (like fools who pay 80% premium to buy phones)

TikTok has been collecting everything. Including live data. All sorts of Chinese brands has been caught transmitting data without user permission.
Cambridge Analytica made huge amounts of damage with an extremely limited budget. China can do the same amount of damaging impact on everybody at the same time.

The "spying" issue media is taking about isn't the danger, it's the planned/projected attempt to influence "everybody".

Sure we can go without google services if we try and feel threatened enough. But you must know who is the CEO of google and alphabet.

They are paying fines for data breach every week in EU courts.

Except if you're a US citizen where data is used for political purposes. I don't support Facebook and Google's data policy though.

China also sells data for ads, but China also installs malware on your phones, and not even open about any data policy.

Project Nightfall already discussed how China wants to take over the world. Hence just take a look at how cheap some Chinese smartphones can be.

China is painting itself into a corner by refusing to respect other nation's privacy, they're probably very close to getting all their tech banned in all developed countries.
The concerns are genuine, as the level of destructiveness China would be able to assert with this much stolen data, and bigger funding to use it, would make Cambridge Analytica look like a middle school science project.

You take a stand against wrongdoings, and they will have to change their ways.
Removing those shady apps even proves that something was up with them & Indian govt. caught up to them
The EU has strong GDPR laws & now India has also taken a stand, Rest of the Asian countries should also take measures for privacy & data security.
