The reduced vertical resolution means that the software buttons are taking up space when the device is held in portrait mode, leading me to believe that this is a 7" tablet.

No matter how good HTC's hardware might be, their cameras are always going to be terrible. Like the One X. Excellent phone, let down by poor imaging.

similarly it may be any ratio like 16:10 or 5:4 or any ratio screen.....the important thing to become 1080p screen it shud hav vertical 1080 pixels......for 720p considering as 720 or 768 pixels of vertical...
compare older crt tv with newer lcd they are of the ratio of 4:3 and 16:9....

htc is at it again, thats why they deserve to loose money, they announce phones and people buy it thinking it is a flagship that will last for the year and then they do this shit. Really thats why the galaxy s series has a fan following because they launch one kick ass phone and stick to it.... really dissapointed
